Reporting to the Vice President of Sales, the Sales Manager is responsible for leading, coaching, and managing a team of sales representatives focused on specific product lines or geographical areas. This role aims to achieve and surpass sales revenue, profitability, and budget objectives. The Sales Manager collaborates with the Vice President and other executives to develop effective business and staffing plans aligned with corporate goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with sales representatives to identify opportunities and provide guidance to exceed sales targets.
- Mentor the sales team on processes and methodologies through weekly calls, monthly meetings, and joint field visits.
- Plan and coordinate sales efforts to achieve objectives.
- Foster a sales culture centered on accountability and performance.
- Optimize sales volume while minimizing costs.
- Manage the sales budget, providing detailed sales activity reports and forecasts to the VP of Sales.
- Partner with the VP of Sales to develop business and staffing plans that align with corporate objectives.
- Monitor customer, market, and competitor activities.
- Cultivate and maintain client relationships to ensure repeat business.
- Strive to exceed customer expectations and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Build strong relationships with clients and internal partners such as service, parts, and marketing.
- Utilize Microsoft Dynamics for effective sales management and accurate customer data maintenance.
- Travel for in-person meetings to strengthen key customer and OEM relationships.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Talent Management Responsibilities:
- Uphold company HR practices and maintain positive employee relationships.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure ongoing training and development.
- Facilitate staff performance reviews, development, and succession planning.
- Train, mentor, and coach junior team members.
- Maintain efficient staffing levels.
- Model and promote the company’s values and positive work environment.
- Ensure the safety of all team members.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:
- Familiarity with a defined sales process.
- Proven experience in sales management.
- Ability to develop and implement Sales Plans
- Strong forecasting and sales pipeline management skills.
- Results-oriented with effective decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- High customer focus and problem-solving proficiency.
- Strong presentation and communication abilities.
- Ability to build and maintain key internal and external relationships.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- A sense of urgency to get things done.
Training, Education and Experience:
- 5 + years of successful sales experience in sales of equipment or similar machinery/industry.
- 2 - 5 years of experience in managing small teams and/or coaching or mentoring others.
- Post-secondary education in a related discipline is considered an asset.
- High school diploma.
