Ferguson is currently seeking the right individual to fill an immediate need for an Area Sales Manager - Plumbing position focusing on the Residential Trade business for the Kansas and Missouri markets.

This position will allow the Residential business to increase focus on sales expansion, margin improvement, and specification and influencing products. The ASM will be responsible for the overall sales performance of their direct reports and dotted line report.

Position Details

  • Reports to Director, Residential Trade

  • Details: 10 branches, 8-12 direct reports

  • Position must be based out of Kansas City (Lenexa, KS)


  • Develops and maintains relationships with key vendors and suppliers to ensure coordination and outstanding service levels

  • Assigns, monitors and sets objectives for key accounts and sales representatives

  • Accompanies sales representatives on existing key accounts and large new customer calls

  • Provides leadership and input for pricing proposals and strategic plans for key accounts

  • Supervises sales trends, market dynamics, product performance results and customer preferences to determine focus of sales efforts

  • Lead, direct, evaluate, and manage a team of outside sales representatives to pursue prospects, promote products, offer solutions and achieve sales targets

  • Participate in leadership meetings and represent associate concerns, policies and guidelines to the management team

  • Work with inside sales and counter associates to mentor, guide and train

  • Work with Area Management and Branch Managers to implement counter sales strategies


  • 5+ years sales experience, industry knowledge is preferred

  • Prior Outside Sales or Management experience is helpful

  • Ability to travel throughout the area with occasional overnights as needed

  • Good judgment, problem solving skills, and ability to see the "big picture"

  • Handle stress, manage time and people, and analyze numbers

  • Coaching and mentoring skills vital

  • Ability to develop budgets and execute plans

  • Experience defining customer needs and providing solutions
