Technical Business Development Manager

Collins Aerospace, Military Avionics & Helicopters, are seeking a Technical Business Development Manager, based in Huntsville, AL, to prosecute new business for avionics solutions with U.S. Army Aviation. The account manager must be a self-starter, a leader, and able to develop customer relationships at various levels and functional areas. This individual will be responsible for leading the development of business strategies and customer engagement plans for a peer triad, consisting of Program Management, Engineering and Business Development, to strengthen our relationship and grow opportunities with the PEO Aviation, PM AMSA, MOSA Transformation Office and Aviation Enablers. This position is in Huntsville, AL area. The ideal candidate is expected to live within driving distance of Huntsville, AL to facilitate ad hoc meetings, customer and internal coordination. A relocation package is available for the right candidate.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads the overall Pursuit and Order Capture phase of programs, leading in developing Contact Plans/Affinity Analysis, Price To Win as well as Competitive Analysis.

  • Develops strategy and customer engagement to influence customer requirements aligned with Collins strategy and customer value proposition

  • Acts as voice of the customer to assist in providing guidance to engineering and program management in the development of customer solutions

  • Helps assess the technical requirements of an RFP (request for proposal)

  • Works alongside engineering and engineering subject matter experts to determine systems and products to meet mutually beneficial technical solutions

  • Works with customers to ensure a complete understanding and agreement on the technical statement of work

  • Leads customer meetings, presentations, presentations, and supports product demonstrations

  • Identifies new areas of technology that, if developed provide a technical advantage over the competition or overcomes a known disadvantage

  • Supports the business development team in its pricing assertions for customer driven scope changes.

  • Performs other duties as required

  • Limited travel, as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations

  • Strong, demonstrated technical background in avionics, software/hardware, and mission systems integration.

  • Professional verbal and writing, presentation skills mandatory.

  • Maintains or is eligible for US DoD Secret security clearance.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications, The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Engineering Background

  • Working knowledge of U.S. Army Aviation org structure, requirements generation, decision making and acquisition.

  • Working knowledge of U.S. Army Aviation capabilities, desired technologies and CONOPs.

  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and accurate efficiency; should be deadline-oriented and versatile

  • Ability to build and manage relationships with new and existing customers, internal teams, management and stakeholders.

  • A strong background and working network within U.S. Army Aviation, PEO Aviation, Program Offices, Aviation Enablers, CCDC AvMC and related Industry.

  • Deep understanding of current solutions on Army Aviation enduring fleet aircraft

  • Working knowledge of U.S. Army Aviation implementation of MOSA and impact on solutions
