JOB SUMMARY: The Lead Replenishment Buyer will establish the essential guidelines for consistency, cost-effectiveness, efficiency and adequacy of the procurement process. Responsible for overseeing and facilitating the purchasing strategy, this candidate will supervise the team of Replenishment Buyers ensuring all meet the company’s standards for work quality. The Lead Replenishment Buyer will monitor the Replenishment Team’s specific results toward meeting the company’s service level, in-stock conditions, inventory turns, product quality and overall inventory investment value goals.

The Lead Replenishment Buyer will also have replenishment responsibilities which include: Procure category merchandise to be sold at retail; replenish goods for resale, focusing on service level, turns, quality and acquisition, logistics and handling costs; manage disposition of discontinued items. Recommend purchasing of new items, adjustment to inventory stock levels and quantity to be purchased. Meet with manufacturers and vendors and coordinate purchasing function with other merchandising, warehouse and operations functions.


  • Manage, develop, coach and mentor a team of Replenishment Buyers
  • Ensure cross training, system development and the leverage of best practices and systems across the team to optimize effectiveness and team efficiency
  • Ensure team is meeting the goals as established for their supporting departments. Work closely with leadership to ensure solid communication, planning and outcomes
  • Maintain required daily service level on regular and advertised items through the proactive management of assigned items and vendors
  • Minimize acquired cost of goods for regular, promotional and forward buys through efficient ordering practices
  • Attend and communicate meetings with the company’s Sales, Operations and Warehouse & Transportation leadership teams
  • Receive and handle communications from the stores and support them with timely answers to questions, concerns and solutions.
  • Recognize and support opportunities to purchase common items across categories or departments to leverage our buying power
  • Assist in ensuring item maintenance and pricing are accurate and communicated timely and properly to all partnering teams including Data Integrity, Marketing and Fresh Item Management
  • Provide status communications to Sr. Category Manager and/or Category Director/Manager where appropriate or required.
  • Maximize inventory turns through accurate purchasing and timely management of inventory
  • Purchase goods that meet the departments specifications for quality, cost and other specifications - work with distribution center to maintain correct quality standards
  • Accomplish budgeted inventory levels by utilizing system tools to analyze and react to trends
  • Recognize strategic inventory investment opportunities to enhance capital returns
  • Monitor and maintain item purchasing status, item relationships and vendor status
  • Identify and monitor excess inventory and make recommendations for disposition to merchandising management
  • Provide promotional forecasting, in collaboration with the Sr. Category Manager/Category Director/Manager and vendor for accuracy, confirmation of adequate supply and the determination of most efficient acquisition and distribution methods
  • Efficiently manage inventory to achieve budget
  • Monitor discontinued items and manage efficient dispensation
  • Monitor new item, seasonal and ad distributions, assuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Ensure that business unit item and vendor data is accurate
  • Assist in the resolution of invoice discrepancies and take active steps to eliminate the root causes of those errors internally and externally
  • Provide out-of-stock reports and communicate to all applicable departments
  • Provide direction to Buyer’s Category Managers regarding purchase order prioritization and issue resolution
  • Ownership of short coded item distribution



  • High School Education

  • Strong preference is given to applicants who have completed the WAFC Retail Management Certificate Program (RMCP)

  • Demonstrated people management and development skills

  • Excellent supply chain knowledge

  • Self-distributing and warehouse experience

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) written and oral preferred

  • Knowledge of MS Office

  • Must have ability to work in a high paced environment

  • Must have good communication skills

  • Must be able to work as part of a team

  • Detail-oriented, ability to manage complex processes while not losing sight of evolving goals and competing priorities

  • Efficiency expert, who looks to find the best way to efficiently replenish goods at store level through both standard and non-standard methods

  • Problem-solver - recognizes areas of opportunity and works to resolve issues
