The VMware Modern Application Platform Business Unit (MAPBU) is looking for a Technical Program Manager to join us in building the Tanzu portfolio and transform how the world deploys and scales software. This role will work across the engineering teams to be the ‘glue’ that facilitates the flow of features to our customers while keeping our quality bar high. As a TPM at VMware your primary role is to effectively deliver software of highest value.
This role is specifically targeted for the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid programs (part of Run Manage Observe (RMO) Pillar). Run modern infrastructure by simplifying the adoption of Kubernetes. Manage resources across teams to meet the needs of both operators and developers. Observe modern application and cloud infrastructure-oriented monitoring, tracing, and logging.

You’re able to keep short-term, tactical details of a product release in focus, clearly visible to teams and stakeholders, and under control. At the same time, you’re working towards the long-term goal of building a sustainable software development and release system that will scale for years to come.
You will build the mechanisms that allow the program to understand its progress towards its near and long term goals and illuminate paths to get there. You’ll enable the program to connect those goals to overall Business Unit and VMware Objectives, maintaining alignment within the overall roadmap.
You are capable of understanding distributed systems, how they work, and partnering with engineering teams to set the technical direction, vision and strategy. You are capable of managing a program around a nascent SaaS platform solution with early customer adoption as it evolves and scales towards an established, mature product in the market.
This role includes but is not limited to helping build systems and feedback loops around the TKG program, delivering timely and healthy product releases, providing feedback and coaching to Engineering and Product teams and leadership within the program, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement and learning within MAPBU R&D. As the program landscape changes, this role will also include ensuring those transitions are healthy and resilient.
Desired Skills / Experience:
Technical Program Management across complex programs in which several product teams are delivering product features and managing dependencies with other programs and products within a large portfolio.
Familiarity and experience with agile software delivery methodologies and lean governance.
Defining, establishing, and maintaining a consistent, traceable decision-making process across a heterogeneous landscape of stakeholders.
Has expert understanding of software development, release management, SaaS. cloud infrastructure, security, virtualization, storage, management, and other technical subjects as related to job.
Communicates information and clear instructions effectively both in written and oral form to the program team and other stakeholders. Ability to present program updates to cross functional teams, partners and senior management. Has the ability to convey complex ideas in a logical sequence that others can understand.
Gathering metrics and building reports and dashboards that detail program health including customer success, project execution, and team health. TKG uses Jira as a project management tool.
Facilitating planning and coordination efforts with Go-To-Market teams to support their schedules and planning, tracking, and communicating product delivery expectations with potential and existing customers
Demonstrated ability to understand technical concepts at a level equivalent to Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in related fields

A well defined cadence for the RMO prodeng teams while managing critical integrations across the TKG program
Create processes, mechanisms, and tools that shape the delivery of the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid program
Work towards release development lifecycle and mitigate risks partnering with PM, UX, engineering teams
Drive internal process improvements across multiple teams and functions
Manages technical programs, projects and initiatives affecting area goals and objectives.
Drives the management of cross-functional leadership teams; facilitating, coordinating and leading cross-functional teams to complete a variety of technical program plans, tasks, and milestones.
Maintains an awareness of industry trends, business conditions and internal processes and practices to influence the success of programs and initiatives.
Maintain healthy relationship within RMO teams and build partnerships across teams
