Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Operations Manager (OM) is to manage, facilitate and coordinate the activities and duties of the Operations Department. The OM should possess the skills to motivate, guide and direct the members of the Operations Department toward achieving the goals and objectives of the company. This position requires accomplished leadership toward achieving and exemplifying the standards and principals of Wright Beverage Distributing regarding Our People, Our Business, Our Customers and Our Suppliers



QUANTIFIABLE POSITION OBJECTIVES
1. Attain cents per case profit goals
2. Operate all departments within their budget parameters
3. Meet established KOI goals
4. Achieve the Company’s safety goals.



QUALITATIVE POSITION OBJECTIVES
1. Ensure all employees adhere to all company policies and procedures including dress code and appearance.
2. Coach and develop all managers to ensure continued development of their department.
3. Formulate long and short term plans to ensure flawless daily business execution.
4. Review and adjust routing to ensure peak efficiency through Road Net.
5. Review and adjust warehouse to maximize the efficiency of Warehouse Management System (WMS).
6. Ensure 100% OSHA compliance throughout the entire company.
7. Ensure 100% supplier compliance in documentation, product storage, and product quality.
8. Ensure inventory levels and controls meet company parameters.
9. Instill teamwork in every employee
10. Coordinate and develop all aspects of safety in the workplace.
11. Ensure all departments are properly staffed.
12. Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are adhered to on a daily basis.


OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

Inventory/Warehouse
1. Ensure proper inventory levels are maintained for all products.
2. Monitor close coding for all packages and work closely with sales dept. to effectively manage both close-to-code and out-of-code product.
3. Manage all aspects involving inventory control procedures including cycle counts. Develop strategies to tighten controls and ensure inventory adjustment reports are complete and accurate.
4. Ensure adequate warehouse staffing at all times in order to meet receiving and loading efficiency goals.
5. Ensure all personnel receive up-to-date safety training and that all company and OSHA safety requirements are followed.
6. Conduct weekly / monthly meetings with the department managers to review company KOIs and to ensure adherence to performance standards.



Delivery Service
1. Review weekly delivery performance trends. Including average cases per route, average cases per stop, average stops per route, delivery hours, and fuel consumption. Develop action plans for changes in routing procedures that would improve productivity or reduce costs.
2. Ensure adherence to the formal company Service Policy, including delivery minimums and off-day deliveries in order to maximize routing and delivery efficiencies.
3. Ensure proper delivery staffing to safely and efficiently deliver daily volume according to delivery goals.
4. Maintain CDL and DOT files ensuring they are complete and up-to-date.

Facility
1. Review and negotiate on a regular basis all fuel purchasing and consumption.
2. Ensure adequate and up-to-date records are kept on all fuel usage.
3. Review and assist Operations Director on all facility repairs and maintenance.



HUMAN RESOURCES DUTIES
1. Interview potential new-hires and make final hiring decisions coordinating with HR Director.
2. Ensure proper compliance and follow thru of all employee disciplinary situations and ensure that all warnings and disciplinary documentation is properly filed.
3. Ensure employee evaluations are conducted on an annual basis according to company standards. Adheres to compliance of all company rules and regulations as documented in the WBD’s Company Handbook.
4. Through training and mentoring to develop direct reports into true “managers”. Train a successor to assume your job responsibilities in order to ensure long-term continuity.

INTERDEPARTMENTAL INTERFACES
1. Administrative: Ensure all direct reports are provided documentation for payroll, personnel status changes.
2. Sales: Ensure timely communication of all customer, delivery, and product concerns or problems.



SUPPLIER AND INDUSTRY RELATIONS
1. Actively maintain and strengthen appropriate peer-level customer relationships with retailer decision-makers and influencers.
2. Monitor all customer complaints and convey them to the Sales Manager.

PLANNING AND STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT
1. Create and submit an annual operations plan to the Operations Director.
2. Provide an operational perspective and balance to the sales leadership team.
3. Oversee the development and execution of a delivery service policy.
4. Develop short and long term strategies and tactics to ensure maximum warehouse utilization and efficiency.



CUSTOMER RELATIONS
1. Uphold customer service philosophy and exemplify company standards while executing business activities.
2. Strive to build and maintain favorable reputation of the Company to fulfill the vision of being the “Preferred Supplier” with our customers.
3. Answer and satisfy customer complaints whenever possible to build positive business relationships.



MINIMUM/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Education:
    • Minimum: High school diploma or GED
    • Preferred: College Degree
  • Skills:
    • Minimum: Supervisory, motivational and good math, verbal and written skills required. Proficient in Microsoft office applications, especially Excel and Power Point. Must be able to operate a tow motor and electric pallet jack
    • Preferred: Superior communication and supervisory skills. Strong math skills and creative initiative
  • Experience:
    • Minimum: Five years supervisory role in the distribution industry.
    • Preferred: Five years experience in a progressive managerial position in the wholesale distribution industry with extensive safety and OSHA experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift and stack, 1 case of can (21 pounds), 1 case of 12oz bottles (38 pounds), 1 case of 40 oz bottles (48 pounds) and½ barrels weighting 175 pounds 3 feet off the ground; stand; continuous use of hands and arms to reach for product. The employee is frequently required climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.



WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS
All work is performed inside the confines of the warehouse except for pulling trucks in and out of the warehouse. Exposure to diesel fumes.



ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Must hold a valid, clean NYS driver’s license that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
