The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Receptionist/Program Aide at the Mckinney Corps, located in Mckinney, TX.
Job Summary:
Provides general program and information about the Corps operations and services;; receives and receipts deliveries and donations; greets and announces visitors and clients; provides administrative assistance for the Social Services, Food Pantry and Christmas Season Programs; assists children’s activities at an after school program; performs routine clerical work such as typing and filing; assists with transporting passengers in a Salvation Army vehicle.

Receptionist Responsibilities (35%)
Answers the telephone and transfers calls to the appropriate destination; responds to callers questions and provides accurate information.

Telephones others to communicate messages; records accurate and complete messages; ensures the timely and accurate distribution of messages through telephone and/or E-mail.

Records and updates statistical information; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same; records community assistance into databases.

Receives, greets and announces visitors in a courteous and tactful manner; provides assistance to callers and visitors by answering questions and providing instructions and referrals; screens sales representative soliciting to The Salvation Army.

Notifies proper individuals when visitors or clients have arrived; ensures that visitors and clients have signed-in.

Adds/deletes names and extensions to the phone list to ensure the list remains up-to-date on a daily basis; proof reads telephone lists for mistakes before list is printed.

Sorts and distributes mail; ensures all mail reaches appropriate destination; assists with preparing bulk-mail.

Supervises and assigns the work of community service workers and submits paperwork to Adult Probation Services; serves as a liaison to parole officers and completes court-ordered paperwork.

Program Support Responsibilities (30%)
Greet and monitors clients visiting the Corps, ensure compliance with rules and regulations to ensure their safety.

Coordinates the retrieval, storage, and distribution of food and commodities for the program; prepares labels for food; packages food; monitors expiration dates on all food in the pantry; discards outdated or damaged food.

Receives and processes donated food items and clothing; obtains needed food items for the kitchen as needed; obtains food from the warehouse as needed; maintains inventory records of the same.

Inputs client information into database accurately and in accordance with established timelines and procedures.

Opens/closes the Community Center in compliance with established operating hours; ensures the center is properly secured during non-operating hours.

Prepares and maintains a schedule of Community Center activities in an accurate and timely manner.

Supervises patrons visiting the Community Center and participating in programs; ensures that patrons’ behavior remains consistent with center rules and regulations.

Administrative Responsibilities (20%)
Records and updates statistical information; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same; records community assistance into databases.

Inputs client information into database accurately and in accordance with established timelines and procedures.

Sorts and distributes mail; ensures all mail reaches appropriate destination; assists with preparing bulk-mail.

Receives and prepares receipts for donations, packages, airline tickets, express mail and items delivered to the lobby; notifies proper individuals of item arrival by telephone and/or E-mail.

Performs other administrative duties as requested.

Christmas Program Responsibilities (15%)
Assists Program Coordinator during the Christmas Season with all aspects of the Angel Tree distribution program.

Provides administrative support for the Angel Tree program; assists in registering clients; makes additional copies of needed paperwork; answers general questions regarding the program.

Transport Kettle workers to and from various locations as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to direct phone calls to the appropriate person or destination. Ability to respond to and assist callers and visitors in a calm, courteous and tactful manner. Ability to record accurate and complete messages. Ability to perform clerical support work while operating the multi-line telephone. Ability to maintain an adequate supply of applications, informative materials and/or brochures for distribution to visitors. Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and effective manner. Ability to project a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.,
Bi-lingual in Spanish highly preferred


Prior experience working with the public performing customer service or receptionist responsibilities,


Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

Valid State Drivers License (Preferred)

Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to operate a telephone and/or switchboard. Ability to sort documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing while functioning in the food pantry capacity. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (up to 25 lbs.) occasionally.

Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
