Job Description

The Project Manager-Consultant leads the project team to meet project objectives within scope, schedule, cost, resource, quality, risk constraints. Manages projects whose core deliverables require new or improved information and business systems solutions. Consultant-level professional with extensive experience in all aspects of information and business systems project and program management. Encompasses the full knowledge required to effectively lead projects and programs through the project lifecycle. Provides leadership in establishing improved project management processes and tools. Leads other project managers as part of program management role. Possesses advanced project management skills combined with institutional knowledge, domain knowledge, and strong relationships that enable effective management of the most demanding projects and programs. Trusted to work with very little oversight; able to provide assistance to other project managers in challenging situations.

Job Essentials

1. Develops and leads the execution of project plans including a detailed schedule of tasks and owners using Intermountain PMO approved methodologies and tools. Coordinates the development of multiple project plans as part of a Program, providing guidance to other project managers. Adjusts project plan as necessary to achieve project objectives within schedule, scope and resource constraints
2. Manages multiple, interdependent projects as part of a large, complex coordinated program with high visibility and significant risk. Effectively coordinates and proactively manages cross project dependencies to reduce program risk. Coordinates effective communication to project stakeholders about project status and progress.
3. Consults with other project managers to develop strategies for handling difficult or novel project management situations.
4. Leads other project managers in the performance of their duties; may have HR reporting responsibilities as well.
5. Identifies needed project resources and works with resource managers using approved processes and tools to ensure that adequate resources are in place to support the project plan. Escalates project resource issues in a timely manner.
6. Leads development of project cost plans. Tracks actual costs against budget to ensure the realization of expected value from resource usage.
7. Assigns project work, sets priorities, and provides guidance in the completion of tasks, reviews deliverables, and reviews and approves project timesheets.
8. Works with resource managers to address individual performance issues affecting project success. May participates in the recruiting and hiring of team members, as appropriate.
9. Provides leadership in identifying, analyzing, managing, mitigating and resolving issues and risks (including dependencies) affecting the project. As appropriate, escalates issues and risks to management.
10. Leads the development, review and approval of the documents required by the Project Life Cycle. Leads preparation for Project Life Cycle phase transition Checkpoint reviews.
11. Develops and executes project and or program communication plans to ensure timely, accurate, effective communication of project related information to stakeholders. Uses PMO approved methods and tools to ensure consistency. Leads development of presentations for use in various venues. Effectively organizes and leads project meetings.
12. Facilitates necessary interactions between stakeholders to resolve issues affecting project success. Highly adept at managing and resolving interpersonal conflict between project participants.
13. Provides leadership in developing and implementing improved project management processes and tools.
14. Actively participants in stakeholder / resource manager staff meetings to provide strategic direction for programs.
15. Develops and maintains domain knowledge of Intermountain?s clinical workflows, business processes, and cultural norms. Possesses sufficient technical and/or regulatory knowledge to effectively understand project related scope issues and risks. Develops and maintains a solid understanding of Intermountain's application portfolio and architectures.
16. Develops and maintains effective relationships as necessary to enable the effective resolution of issues affecting project success.



Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a science, engineering, business management or related field that demonstrates strong analytical ability. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Eight years of experience in an Information Systems organization in the project and program manager role, or a Masterís Degree in a closely related field plus six years of experience.

Certified Professional in Health Information & Management Systems (for IT roles only).

MS Project Certification, 'Managing Projects with Microsoft Project'
- and -
ITIL V3 Foundations certification (for IT roles only).
- and -
Project Management Professional and Program Management Professional certifications from PMI.org or equivalent.
- and -
Project Management Professional and Program Manaegment Professional certifications from PMI.org or equivalent.

Bachelor's degree in a science, engineering, business management or related field that demonstrates strong analytical and organizational ability, and six years of experience. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Eight years of equivalent verifiable project management experience or information systems leadership experience.
- or -
Master's degree in a closely related field, plus four years of experience,

Four years of experience with Healthcare IT technologies and applications (for IT roles only).
- and -
Two years of experience in a healthcare provider setting.
- and -
Demonstrated excellent data management, analysis, and presentation skills including use of common tools to extract data and develop reports and graphs for use in reports.

Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications to all levels within the organization.
- and -
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with all levels within the organization.
- and -
Demonstrated ability to influence others to complete assigned work using methods consistent with Intermountain's values.
- and -
Formal training in project related financial management and demonstrated effectiveness.
- and -
Formal training in project related financial management and demonstrated effectiveness.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of experience in an Information Systems organization in the functional management role.

Successful track record in all aspects of providing excellent customer service.
- and -
Six years of experience in actively using Microsoft Project Professional to manage projects.
- and -
Three years of experience managing projects using a Project Life Cycle including phase-gate style project reviews.
- and -
Four years of Project Management Office experience with respect to developing and implementing project management processes and tools.
- and -
Formal study and demonstrated experience in organizational and cultural change management.
