Job Description

The Senior Vice President Retail has the opportunity to join a $750+mil market leader during time of rapid growth and transformation. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role within CITY Furniture. This opportunity also offers long-term career growth within the broader Sales function.

This is a critical role that oversees the development, management, and optimization of priority channels to achieve base business growth, new sales, and retention objectives. The Senior Vice President Retail responsibilities include multi-year strategy, development, launch, measurement, and continuous improvement of business developed programs. These responsibilities drive revenue, profit, satisfaction, consumer loyalty, retention, and clearly differentiate CITY Furniture from competitors and self-operation.

The Senior Vice President Retail will provide leadership & guidance to develop, operate, and optimize our showroom/retail footprint, programs, promotions, merchandising, product quality, and analytics/measurement tools. This role needs to collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams across the organization.

Work Environment Summary

This position is required to work a flexible 50-hour work week, with a minimum of one weekend day in a corporate environment. Occasional nights, weekends, and holidays may be required to attend events and conduct special projects. Travel to multiple showrooms weekly is required. Prolonged sitting with some (visiting the floor of the workplace) Gemba walks included.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy/Planning - Directs the preparation and implementation of an annual growth plan for the Retail department including, but not limited to, trends and growth opportunity identification, base business growth objectives and strategies, price/rate objectives and strategies, innovation/new program development plans, optimization plans, key issues, budget and timing. Provides perspective and analysis for the strategic plan, annual operating plan, quarterly operating reviews, and other strategic efforts. Develop long-range strategies to achieve key objectives for retail/showrooms, monitor performance against these objectives, and coaching/guidance to direct report(s), as well as other team members. Creates standard operating procedures and best practices in terms of performance monitoring to optimize for key measures of success (e.g. customer satisfaction, quality, time, etc.) Strategic planning, prioritization, communication, and drive execution to enhance profitability, productivity, and efficiency throughout the company’s operations.

Insights - Utilizes primary and secondary consumer, client, and channel insights from experience and interaction with team to inform all Sales program development. Recommends research for key channel initiatives and collaborate with Marketing/Merchandising on market research with the Analytics Team to evaluate program results. Interact regularly with executive team and individual department heads to ensure that company’s operational priorities are aligned with total company direction.

Team Leadership - Responsible for managing direct reports, and a support team. Works closely with key functions to support priority initiative development and successful showroom/sales execution. Drives the Sales Department to be the #1 Furniture & Mattress Sales organization in the USA. Attracts and retains the best Sales Leadership team in the US. Provides strong leadership and strategic direction to the Sales Department. Recruits, supports, motivates, directs, and retains high-caliber staff. Develop, implement ongoing staff performance, and career development programs.

Profit and Loss Responsibility - Manages product mix to increase profitability. Operates and optimize the existing retail channel footprint. Develops new channels of revenue. Manages the annual catalog of items, price and rate increases for this revenue line.

Program Implementation and Budget Management - Devises training and implementation support tools/systems for channel growth initiatives to ensure consistent execution. Leads the regional showroom management system to determine process, and ensures that programs are delivered on time and within budget. Overall responsibility for clarity, consistency, and strategic integrity of all programs.

Program Tracking/Analysis/Reporting - Works with Finance and IT departments to improve tracking, analysis, and reporting of channel program performance. Helps showroom teams improve the ability to track and analyze the business. Ensures measurement tools are in place, oversees program implementation audits, and captures feedback to improve performance.

Reporting Structure This position reports directly to the Chief Revenue Officer and is a member of the Sales department with direct reports reporting to them.

Financial Transaction Responsibilities This position is responsible to approve financial transactions; prepare financial transactions for approval by others; and reconcile financial transactions. This position has the ability to handle cash, checks, and credit cards as needed to make purchases.

Decision Making Responsibilities This position is responsible for making decisions regarding managing and maintaining regional showrooms, human resources, and financial functions.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.

Work Experience:

  • Three or more years working as a senior executive in a retail environment required.
  • Lean certifications preferred (Six Sigma)
  • Experienced with budgeting, forecasting sales, strategically prioritizing major projects throughout a department or organization.
  • Experienced with negotiating, recruiting and retaining top talent within an organization.
  • Experienced in building a positive, productive and high performing culture.

Computer Knowledge and Skills: Required

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher)
  • Google Suite
  • Valid Driver’s License Required
