SUMMARY

Develop, present and recommend the long-term business plan for flexible product lines. Understand the forward global outlook for the business. Identify competitive threats and opportunities. Manage all commercial aspects of the business to ensure the maximum profitability and growth of the business. Effectively manage and /interact with all functional groups (Sales, Manufacturing, Technical Service & Development, R&D, Supply Chain) involved in the flexible product lines to lead the tactical 0 – 180 day horizon and the 1-5 year strategic horizon of the flexible product lines. Effectively manage customer pricing to ensure the highest netbacks are achieved and the plants remain sold-out. Effectively manage the balance between production and sales to ensure customers are adequately serviced and inventory is optimized. Develop business recommendations for product line improvements, new product development, and acquisitions/diversification.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop, present and recommend the long-term business plan for the flexible product lines.
  • Lead the development of the forward view for the business. Identify threats and opportunities. Recommend actions in the business plan.
  • Develop the annual business plan to include sales and market forecasts, key issues, and annual goals.
  • Develop the sales strategy, grade slate and customer mix to optimize the assets.
  • Make recommendations to direct the sales effort as appropriate as markets and competitive dynamics change, working closely with the Sales Manager
  • Approve all customer and other key contracts important to the flexible product lines.
  • Effectively manage customer pricing to ensure the highest netbacks are achieved and the plants remain sold out, with the approval authority from the SBU Head.
  • Effectively manage the balance between production and sales to ensure customers are adequately serviced and inventory is optimized.
  • Oversee associated business processes including production planning, technical service and product development.
  • Manage market research analyses to ensure the necessary quantitative and qualitative data for plant expansion, product and market development, diversification and acquisitions are provided.
  • Steward business performance vs. plan to identify variations from plans and forecasts in areas such as market growth, competitive activity, sales volume, price and value, product profitability, etc., and implement the necessary corrective action.
  • Assist Sales in building customer relationships and providing clear communication of WLK strategies and commitments.
  • Collaborate and play a leadership role with functional groups (Sales, Technical, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Customer Service) to ensure alignment with strategy and provide high quality sales, marketing, and manufacturing support.
  • Participates in industry associations and develops POV (point of view) on all industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive strategies and product offerings.
  • Ensures that contribution margin and manufacturing capability are key determining factors in establishing and maintaining product mix and customer base.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
  • Any additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Chemical or Polymer Engineering with a minimum of 10 years industry experience. Commercial experience a plus.
  • MBA or like business experienced preferred.
  • Experience in wire and cable industry in manufacturing, technical service, sales/marketing with proven record of increased responsibility and achievement.
  • Knowledge of respective products, markets, competitors, and applications.
  • Ability to integrate sales, manufacturing, quality and technical requirements to develop a value-added product mix.
  • Knowledge of extrusion and molding applications and requirements.
  • Knowledge of market research, programs and systems, and effective selling techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong customer relation skills.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and appropriate business software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. 25% travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
