Job Description

The Business Development Representative is responsible for business development, including identifying market opportunities, market competitiveness, and pricing. This role may be dedicated to servicing one significant customer or responsible for multiple customer’s goals and encompassing customer relations and implementation.

Job Duties

  • Build and manage relationships with potential customers
  • Work strategically with operations to competitively bid opportunities
  • Process and deliver to customers Request for Proposals (RFP’s)
  • Positively and effectively sell United Road services and overcome all objections necessary to win properly-priced business
  • Develops and manages customer relationships for accounts to gain strategic positioning with decision makers, retain existing revenue, attain additional business and resolve any operational concerns
  • Maintain a sales pipeline with new customer targets
  • Identify new sales opportunities by contacting prospective customers by cold calling, premise visits, networking, lead generation, proposal submission, and face-to-face appointments
  • Develops and implements actions to create additional opportunities to cross-sell and up-sell accounts to increase overall total customer spend with the company

  • Strong financial analysis ability
  • Strong customer service orientation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in a variety of situations
  • Ability to solve problems and think quickly under pressure
  • Robust oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy
  • Proficient use of Microsoft products


  • Bachelor’s degree or a comparable combination of education and business development experience
  • Three years of directly related business development experience in the transportation industry strongly preferred
  • Proven track-record of developing positive relationships
  • History of consistently meeting or exceeding annual sales/business development targets
