Reporting to the Senior Manager, Renewable Gas Supply, this position will lead business development for new renewable gas supply opportunities to grow FortisBC’s Renewable Gas Program to meet our clean growth targets. Responsibilities
Provide leadership in effective assessment and development of opportunities to procure and produce renewable and low-carbon intensity gas with a focus on emerging and innovative pathways including wood based biomass to synthesis gas (syngas) and biomethane, hydrogen and other forms of low-carbon fuels that can replace natural gas.
Seek out, establish and maintain effective working relationships with developers, suppliers, external stakeholders, government departments and agencies, and other industry peers; this includes engaging and influencing external organizations and industry associations.
Build and manage a team of professionals to engage, develop and realize business development opportunities to successfully grow Renewable Gas supply volume. Establish team objectives and lead the activities of the Renewable Gas Group, responsible for all alternative renewable and low-carbon supply.
Develop ideas and concepts that involve unique applications and define business, commercial and contractual requirements, and regulatory approval strategy that support project development and investment opportunities.
Oversee the review of project proposals including the execution of early stage technical and economic evaluation and business case approval to move feasible projects from the assessment and development phase through to implementation.
Collaborate and coordinate input from the wider Renewable Gas team and internal business units to define, develop and evaluate business plans and criteria for a variety of renewable gas supply development related activities.
Develop business terms, negotiate and draft agreements related to the acquisition of renewable gas supply.
Liaise with Regulatory, Finance, Legal and other internal departments, to ensure regulatory and other requirements are met. Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Commerce or Engineering from an accredited University plus 8 to 12 years business development/management experience including project development experience, preferably within a regulated environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience*. Combination of professional engineer (PEng) and MBA considered an asset.
Knowledge of utility regulatory principles
Knowledge of energy infrastructure and market participants
Knowledge of system capacity planning,
Knowledge of pipeline and facility operations
Knowledge of asset management best practices applicable for energy facilities
Demonstrated ability to guide technical and financial evaluations
Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute work on time and on budget
Demonstrated ability to think strategically, understand and apply business analysis methods
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and demanding work schedules
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
