Duties

The incumbent manages the full operations of the American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit at the U.S. Consulate General in Calgary and is responsible for the supervision, training, and professional development of four full-time locally employed (LE) staff ACS assistants and one full-time consular cashier/ACS clerk. S/he researches and makes determinations of citizenship and loss of nationality claims and other complex ACS matters for the final review and/or approval of three American consular officers. S/he is responsible for managing ACS resources and scheduling appointments while maintaining low ACS appointment wait time. S/he is the primary contact for all USCIS, CBP, State Department, Embassy Ottawa, attorney, and U.S. and Canadian agencies and entities regarding American citizens in distress and other routine and special American citizen services.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years of progressively responsible work experience performing administrative work involving contact with the general public and the application of complex regulations is required. A minimum of six months of that experience as a supervisor is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Incumbent must possess significant knowledge of 7 FAM regulations and other Department guidelines and instructions on ACS matters.

Education Requirements:
Completion of two years of full-time post-secondary education in general studies is required.

Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking English is required. - This may be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must work effectively as the ACS Unit Supervisor, ensuring effective functioning of the ACS Unit. Must be able to prioritize and delegate work, give direction, and exercise good judgment. Excellent written and spoken communication skills, and the ability to exercise tack and judgment in dealing with the public, staff and officials are required. Working knowledge of mission responsibilities, roles and objectives. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Must be able to perform under pressure and be resourceful.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
