Entry Level Sales Engineer

Job Summary

The Sales Engineer (SE) will go through a training program to be trained by experts in each department within our organization. It is expected that the SE will enthusiastically engage in understanding the engineering and manufacturing capabilities of the organization, our business structure, and learn how to leverage the knowledge and information available for revenue generation. Upon successful completion of the training program, the SE will be responsible for developing sales strategies to grow existing customer accounts and identify potential new customers to target. Furthermore, the SE will promote and sell products and services offered by the Company to both existing customers and new customers. The SE’s customer accounts can be based on region, account name, account type, or any combination mutually agreed on with the Director or VP of Sales. The SE will maintain a professional demeanor and collaborate with the rest of the sales team while adhering to company policies and values with all stakeholders.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Generate sales with existing customers and new sales by creating a sales strategy and by providing product and technical information in a timely manner to customers’ stakeholders.
  • Recommend alternate products based on cost, availability, or specifications to customers.
  • Proactively recommend items needed by customers to increase customer satisfaction and improve transaction profitability.
  • Regularly follow up on quotes as necessary to close a sale.
  • Identify key account opportunities and establish strategies to engage potential customers with specific goals aligned with PPS sales objectives.
  • Maintain and update all customer activity (visits, calls, emails, etc.) into the Company’s “CRM” system and submit routine activity reports on customer calls, inclusive of contact information and results of calls.
  • Gain deep understanding of customer’s needs including types of products and services they need.
  • Ensure customer understands price and other terms including delivery date of products and services.
  • Educate customers about terminology, features and benefits of all products in order to improve product related sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Become knowledgeable of all company products and services that are offered.
  • Remain current on consumer preferences, changes in local codes and product developments by attending sales meetings, vendor training and trade shows, or reading trade journals.
  • Identify trends in customer satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
  • Proactively obtain and review macro market intelligence to keep abreast of changes in the market or trends that are developing (attend seminars, conferences, and independent internet research).
  • Contact customers following sales to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction and resolve any complaints.
  • Manage time effectively to meet goals
  • Work collaboratively with all PPS departments
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in an Engineering field
  • Travel expectation of 60% or greater traveling to customer sites and other company locations
  • Extensive overnight travel is required, especially during spring and fall outage season
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or Epicor is a plus
  • Any combination of the above criteria will also be considered.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
