We all want Career Success, and we all know higher education is the first step toward getting there... Right? Picking the right college for your individual needs is one of the most important choices you'll make. The cost and convenience can make some online colleges seem like a dream choice, but you have to be careful.

A traditional online curriculum can be an isolating experience — just you, an online instructor, and your homework! But this isn't the only way! Community-based online learning is an option, and it may well be your best option depending on what your goals are.

Wait! You're telling me college isn't the end-all-be-all? Yes! This is because community is more important than college itself! Just look at Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, and the ways her community contributed to her success…

1. Your community will expose you to diverse perspectives

Every member of a group has their own experiences and knowledge to share. While Elle learned a lot about the law from her professors (Harvard is kind of known for that), it was her own unique knowledge of hair care that allowed her team to win the case.

Elle had known for a while that Chutney had been lying about the night her father was murdered, but she had to prove it. Once Chutney testified that she didn't hear the gunshot that killed her father because she was in the shower after getting her hair permed, Elle knew she had caught her in a lie. Elle knew that washing permed hair within the first 24 hours would effectively undo the perm, and with Chutney's curls still intact, Elle was able to prove she was lying.

Elle's special knowledge not only won the case, but her team learned something new as well. Win-Win.

2. Isolation can be bad for your mental health

Mental health experts agree that isolation can lead to depression, poor sleep quality, and lowered brain function. As humans, we are social creatures who can use the camaraderie of a group from time to time — even if some of us are introverts.

At the beginning of Legally Blonde, we can see that Elle is isolating herself and becoming depressed. Thankfully, she has her sorority sisters at the Delta Nu House that are not going to let her go through this alone!

Whether it's bringing her smoothies or supporting her decision to go to law school, Margot and Serena regularly check on Elle and do their best to cheer her up. Through their help, Elle gained the confidence to take the LSAT, get accepted to Harvard Law School, and prove her worth as a first-year law student.

3. You alone can do it, but you can't do it alone

Although Elle catching Chutney in a lie was key to winning the case, she would never have made it to that point without the help of her community.

The other first-year students on the case, Warner and Vivian, bring their skills and expertise to the case too. And even though they don't understand what Elle is up against, Margot and Serena showing up in court gave Elle the moral support she needed to succeed.

Sure there might have been an epic scene where Elle found the inner determination if she hadn't received that moral support, but what we saw was clear — having a dedicated community around you will allow you to reach your true potential!

4. Uplifting others can help you find yourself

Elle's sharp mind and knack for details helped her win the case, but it's clear she wouldn't have been working so hard if she didn't believe in her client.

Elle truly believes Brooke is innocent and does her best to make Brooke's stay in jail while awaiting trial the best experience it can be. At the same time, she becomes friends with Vivian by showing kindness and compassion.

By being a giving and caring member of her community, Elle found her purpose in helping others.
