Uvaro Partners with OneTen to Drive Economic Prosperity for Black Talent in the Technology Sector

KITCHENER, ON — OCTOBER 18, 2022Uvaro, a career success platform providing training, paid apprenticeships, and career development services to help members land and succeed in technology roles, today announced that it has joined forces with OneTen, a coalition designed to close the opportunity gap for Black talent by helping America’s leading executives, companies, and talent developers hire and advance one million Black individuals without four-year degrees into family-sustaining roles.

As an endorsed OneTen talent developer, Uvaro joins a growing portfolio of leading educators, upskillers, and career-training providers committed to providing in-demand skills for sought-after jobs at the country’s top employers. Uvaro’s members are part of a community who participate in skill-building courses, workshops, networking events, and 1:1 career coaching with a focus on finding great opportunities in the tech sector in customer-facing roles, such as sales or customer success.

The tech sector is growing at a meteoric rate, with high-demand, high-paying, customer-facing roles that need to be filled,” said Joseph Fung, CEO, and Co-Founder of Uvaro. At Uvaro, we're seeing 80% employment within 17 days of course completion, 100% employment satisfaction, and a 120% lift in income. Additionally, our members are seeing profound, life-changing results and are landing roles 5x faster, ramping 3x faster, and are 2x more likely to exceed performance quotas than without Uvaro training.”

Fung continued, Against our UN Sustainability Goals, 67% of our applicants identify as women and 50% identified as POC or BIPOC. Tech talent in customer-facing roles don’t need four-year degrees to be successful, and we‘re excited to support the OneTen community in filling some of the most sought-after roles with high-potential Black talent.”

This partnership is more important now than ever before. While the job market is booming, the racial wealth gap in America remains vast, largely due to the lack of access to quality, well-paying jobs that do not require college degrees: 79% of jobs paying more than $50,000 require a four-year college degree, which automatically excludes the 76% of Black talent over age 25 with relevant experience who don’t have baccalaureate degrees. Harnessing multi-stakeholder partnerships is vital to spearheading diversity and fostering pathways to earned success.

Black individuals have consistently faced unemployment at twice the rate of their white peers, with many workers stuck in low-paying, entry-level jobs with little opportunity for advancement,” said Maurice Jones, CEO of OneTen. Having talent development partners like Uvaro invested in true long-term career growth for Black talent will help us turn the tide in this economic divide.”
