Position Overview
Our Award-Winning Client is seeking a Senior Electromechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, development, testing, and support of intelligent power grid solutions. This position involves engineering the "brains" behind smart grid products, including capacitor controls, source transfer controls, electronic fuses, switchgear controls, and patented peer-to-peer feeder restoration systems.
This is a management role that will involve overseeing a small team, making it an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with strong technical and leadership skills in electrical or electromechanical design.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Design & Development: Lead the design of microprocessor-based controller products for power distribution automation.
- Conceptual & Detailed Modeling: Develop both conceptual and detailed product models to meet technical and regulatory requirements.
- Verification & Validation: Prepare, execute, and document verification and validation test plans, including test methodologies and acceptance criteria.
- Smart Grid Solutions: Design electronic products for smart grid applications, including analog circuit design and unique power supply architectures.
- Regulatory Compliance & Testing: Ensure compliance with IEC/UL/CSA/NEMA standards, National Electric Code, and perform First Article Inspection and part quality approvals.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with internal teams to optimize packaging, user documentation, safety labeling, and product markings.
- Manufacturing Support: Oversee new production builds and modifications for electronic product manufacturing.
Job Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience: 7-10 years of hands-on experience in electromechanical product design, development, and testing, including products like inverters, drives, servers, and network switches.
- Technical Expertise:
- Circuit board layout experience on analog and mixed-signal boards.
- Practical knowledge of sheet metal design, PCBA mounting, cable harnesses, electrical connectors, springs, and fasteners.
- 3D CAD modeling expertise using SolidWorks (sheet metal, plastic, and cable design).
- Proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using finite element analysis and thermal simulation tools.
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC impact and thermal considerations.
- Design experience with packaging for electronic equipment.
