Job Description
Canadian Niagara Power Inc. (CNPI), located in beautiful Fort Erie, is looking for a collaborative SCADA and Network Engineer to design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems, monitor network performance, provide technical support, and more as detailed below. This role reports into our Director of Engineering, Innovation & Climate Change.
Key functions of this role:
SCADA System Management:
- Design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems and its network architectures, integrating PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, and communication systems.
- Perform regular system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and necessary upgrades to maintain system integrity and optimize performance, reliability, and security.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including network diagrams, system configurations, and operational procedures to maintain up-to-date records that accurately reflect the current state of SCADA systems and networks.
Network Infrastructure and OT Cyber Security:
- Collaborate with IT team with network solutions for SCADA systems, along with OT cyber security alerts, threats, & actions.
- Collaborate with vendors and supervise field technicians on SCADA-related device firmware.
- Monitor network performance, identify potential issues, and ensure minimal downtime to operations.
System Integration and Commissioning:
- Collaborate to integrate SCADA systems with new and existing equipment and infrastructure.
- Prepare detailed SCADA design packages, device point assignments, and configurations.
- Configuring/program RTUs, gateway devices, user interfaces, network switches/routers, and other IEDs.
- Prepare and execute pre-commissioning test plans for SCADA systems.
- Perform system commissioning to verify that all components function correctly and meet design specifications.
- Provide technical support during the commissioning phase
What makes you a successful candidate?
- Minimum four years of relevant experience.
- Experience with the design, configuration, testing and troubleshooting of SCADA systems in electrical utility lines and substations with operating voltages from 4kV to 115kV.
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, RTUs (e.g., SEL-3530, 2241, 2240), Ethernet networks, DNP3 protocol, Modbus Plus® protocol, and network infrastructure.
- Experience in designing and implementing security controls for OT systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
- Familiarity with network segmentation techniques and security architectures for OT systems.
- Good understanding of electrical theories and principles of electrical distribution system operations, NIST Cybersecurity framework, and NERC CIP Cybersecurity regulation.
- Post secondary education and accreditation in an engineering discipline. P.ENG designation is an asset.
- Relevant certifications in networking and SCADA systems would be considered an asset.
- High degree of computer literacy and quick learner of evolving operational technology.
- Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time within the different service territories of FortisOntario.
