Job Overview

The Cowichan Green Community is looking for a friendly, reliable, and motivated individual to join our team as a Part-Time Store Assistant at Cowichan Green Community’s (CGC’s) Cowichan reFRESH Marketplace. As a Store Assistant, you will be the face of our organization, ensuring an exceptional shopping experience for our customers and supporting day-to-day operations. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about sustainability, local products, and community engagement.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner, providing excellent customer service.
  • Assist customers in finding products and provide recommendations when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment.
  • Stock shelves, organize displays, and ensure products are well-presented and fully stocked.
  • Operate the cash register and handle customer transactions accurately.
  • Support inventory management, including receiving and unpacking deliveries.
  • Assist with product labelling, pricing, and signage updates.
  • Help ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Assist with special events, promotions, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Assist with Food Recovery when necessary.
  • Stocking produce shelves from Food Recovery.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous retail experience is an asset but not required.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with the reFRESH Cowichan Marketplace Assistant Manager, other staff, customers, volunteers, and community members.
  • A positive attitude and passion for customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A proactive approach to tasks and problem-solving.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Work Expectations

  • The Store Assistant will work in an inside store/office environment.
  • The Store Assistant will work for up to 30 hours per week and will work some shift work and weekends.
