Manager, Landfill – Hazardous Waste Treatment
Overview
Join a leading organization in renewable energy and environmental management as a Manager of Landfill and Hazardous Waste Treatment. In this role, you will oversee complex waste treatment and disposal operations, ensure strict regulatory compliance, and lead a team of 30 employees. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, operational leadership, and environmental safety knowledge to drive efficiency and innovation in hazardous waste management.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Manage waste sampling, treatment, and disposal processes to optimize efficiency.
- Oversee leachate collection and disposal, identifying and addressing operational inefficiencies.
- Supervise capital projects and landfill construction to ensure smooth execution.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to EPA, RCRA, TSCA, DOT, and other state/federal regulations.
- Develop and implement contingency plans, spill prevention measures, and emergency response protocols.
Team Leadership
- Lead a team of 30 employees, including supervisors across multiple departments.
- Oversee hiring, training, performance management, and employee concerns.
Safety & Training
- Implement health and safety protocols in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Provide training on hazardous waste handling, RCRA, HAZWOPER, and DOT certifications.
Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, optimizing resource allocation.
- Monitor costs and implement cost-control measures.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (or high school diploma/GED with 4+ years of relevant experience).
- Minimum 4 years of experience in waste management, hazardous materials, or a related field.
Certifications & Training
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Certifications (provided by the company):
- RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act)
- HAZWOPER (24-hour Hazardous Waste Operations)
- DOT (Department of Transportation)
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of hazardous waste regulations, including:
- RCRA, Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA).
- Experience in landfill operations and hazardous waste treatment standards.
Physical & Medical Requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
- Required to undergo medical exams, respirator fit testing, and pulmonary function tests.
Supervisory Role
- Directly manage 30 employees, including supervisors in stabilization, macro-encapsulation, and biological wastewater treatment.
- Responsible for hiring, training, work assignments, performance reviews, and employee relations.
