Parker Poe is looking for a Business Development Manager to work preferably in our Columbia, SC office; however, qualified candidates at any of our firm's locations will be considered. The Business Development Manager executes business development plans and initiatives on behalf of the Firm’s established Industry Teams and Practice Groups to grow revenue and expand our client-base.
The Business Development Manager is an exempt position that reports directly to the Firm’s Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer and will serve on a highly functioning and successful business development team. This position will work closely with his/or her peers in the department, as well as marketing, Industry Team and Practice Group Leaders. This position must have superior knowledge of client development, client service, and client retention practices in the professional services sector. The Business Development Manager will possess superior analytical, written and oral communication, organizational, and project management skills. He/she must have the ability to implement strategic directives and see projects through from concept to delivery, using initiative, solid judgment, and superior client service.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as front-line project manager for assigned business development-related projects and teams from conception to follow-through to ensure efficiency, quality, and results.
- Manage, guide and track client development efforts for assigned Industry and Client Teams.
- Actively identify and support cross-selling activities between groups.
- Provide strategic advice on business development activities and client service initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Communications Director to identify and pursue profile raising opportunities in key industry and business publications through media relations and advertising.
- Develop targeted and highly customized qualifications documents, proposals and presentations in the pursuit of new business for assigned groups.
- Collaborate closely with Firm’s Pursuits & RFP Manager to create effective pitch teams and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Track and analyze the business development-related efforts and client engagement in the Experience Management tool.
- Collaborate closely with Client Event Planner to manage events and sponsorships, including attending events focused on building and maintaining client relationships.
- Serve as the “face” of the Firm at business and community events.
- Create, monitor and track business development budgets relative to all areas of responsibility, assessing ROI from one year to the next.
- Make recommendations regarding participation/membership in industry publications and organizations.
- Identify awards and recognition opportunities and manage/coordinate nominations with marketing team.
- Identify sources of competitive intelligence; analyze, and conduct as needed, research on competitors and clients.
- Collaborate with marketing on all marketing activities of assigned groups, including events, sponsorships, advertising, PR, etc. with appropriate person within the department or outside consultant.
- Attend and present as needed to assigned group and team meetings and retreats, tracking and driving all business development-related action items.
- Coach and support the individual business development plans and activities for partners and counsel, as well as assigned teams and groups.
- Five or more years of experience in marketing or business development in a law firm or other professional services organization and a bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent combination of experience and education. Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communication, or a related field is preferred.
- High degree of attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and consistency required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent project management skills and demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and client service skills. Demonstrated effective teamwork and ability to establish effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly self-motivated and self-directed. Ability to anticipate needs and exercise independent judgment, as well as recognize when issues should be escalated.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and provide guidance and cross-training to others.
- Problem-solver who exhibits initiative and innovative thinking and drives best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word) as well proficiency with CRM software.
- Availability to travel to other offices and external events as needed, including outside normal business hours.
