Your Opportunity
Waterfront Lifeguards ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for guests and staff through supervision, accident prevention, first aid and rescue skills, public education, and customer service.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Supervise participants on swimming beach, Kelso Cove Waterpark, and in other waterfront areas, enforcing rules and regulations with guests and staff
- Supervise participants during weekly open-water swimming events
- Serve as a first point of contact for guests and respond to incidents within the supervised waterfront areas
- Execute emergency procedures and use safety/rescue equipment as required
- Provide customer service and engage with guests to provide education about potential hazards and safe practices in waterfront areas
- Ensure that all equipment is operational and stored appropriately when not in use
- Ensure safety signs/flags are posted and clearly visible at all times, advising other teams as needed
- Identifies risks in and around beach and waterpark areas escalating as required to keep guests safe
- Support other waterfront events outside of the beachfront area
- Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals
- Other duties as assigned
Your Qualifications
- Must be 15 years of age or older at the time of employment
- Must have LSS Bronze Cross award as a minimum, National Lifeguard certification is preferred
- Must complete National Lifeguard – Waterfront Certification during training period or previously hold the certification
- Must attend all training dates or provide written notice and obtain approval to attend make up sessions as required
- Lifesaving Swim Instructor Certification is an asset
- Previous Waterfront experience is an asset
- Effective communication skills, combined with the ability and willingness to enforce policies and procedures in a professional manner
- Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
- Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00.
- Must be flexible to work all scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays
- CH parks are not accessible by public transit; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation.
