Job Description

A career as a Regulatory Business Analyst within the New Products and Activities Team at National Bank Financial Markets means acting as an expert and being at the heart of compliance and regulation in Financial Markets. This role allows you to have a positive and direct impact on achieving compliance objectives by ensuring the implementation of new solutions and processes that meet our regulatory requirements in an agile and efficient manner, while adhering to various regulations (e.g., EMIR, SFTR, MiFID II, CSA, Dodd-Frank) and meeting the requirements of regulatory authorities (e.g., CFTC, SEC, IIROC, OSFI, AMF, FCA, FINTRAC, etc.).


**This position can be based in our Montreal or Toronto offices, based on the candidate’s preference.**


Your Role

  • Assist specialists in various regulations by translating regulatory requirements into applicable business requirements within financial markets.
  • Support business line and Financial Markets partners in defining and identifying regulatory risks, impacts, and appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Translate regulatory requirements into business needs for financial markets.
  • Guide partners in decision-making and planning activities related to deliverables.
  • Identify non-compliance risks, conduct impact analyses, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Organize and lead workshops to clarify regulatory impacts on processes.
  • Optimize business processes by modeling current and target workflows following best practices.
  • Define and identify user test scenarios, support users through operational transition, and ensure that implemented solutions meet the requirements.
  • Apply best practices to identify and document business requirements (functional and non-functional), ensure their traceability, and understand their interdependence.
  • Propose change management strategies for solution users, ensuring a smooth and compliant transition.

Your Team

Our team consists of about 20 experienced and committed professionals. We work collaboratively and flexibly to optimize processes and meet the requirements of the Financial Markets sector. You will report to the Managing Director and Head of the New Products and Activities Team in Financial Markets, operating in a dynamic and adaptable environment that promotes a comprehensive understanding of the sector’s activities and the sub-processes supporting them.

Close collaboration with traders, risk management solution specialists, and various highly specialized sectors of Financial Markets will allow you to develop a thorough end-to-end understanding of key processes and the ecosystem in which financial markets operate.

Our team is dedicated to delivering new products, regulatory initiatives, and process optimizations for financial markets. We aim to reduce compliance timelines and ensure the sustainability of our activities. You will be expected to identify improvement opportunities, collaborate with various partners to implement changes, and continuously contribute to maintaining the health of the key processes supporting Financial Markets.


Basic requirements

  • A university degree relevant to the role and several years of experience in financial markets or securities.
  • Experience in business analysis within a technology-driven ecosystem, with a strong understanding of financial regulations affecting banks and/or securities dealers (e.g., CSA, Dodd-Frank, EMIR, SFTR, etc.).
  • Experience in end-to-end business process transformation, change management, and continuous improvement.
  • Skills in process modeling (BPMN), transformation, and change management.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and Atlassian tools.
  • Experience with test scenarios and user support.
  • Strategic thinking, analytical, synthesis, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and Atlassian tools.
