Research Coordinator

The interprovincial leads for this project include members from the Department of Rehabilitation Science at the University of Saskatchewan, members from the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta, and clinicians in both public and private practice with expertise in functional electrical stimulation for spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation. This project is funded by Praxis Spinal Cord Institute a not-for profit organization leading global collaboration in SCI research, innovation, and care.
Primary Purpose: The research coordinator with expertise in knowledge mobilization will provide support for the inception, growth, and facilitation of a functional electrical stimulation cycling for SCI rehabilitation community of practice (CoP). This CoP will be formed between the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Nature of Work: Under the supervision of Dr. Hope Jervis-Rademeyer, the Research Coordinator will support the project “Pedaling Forward: Development of an interprovincial functional electrical stimulation cycling community of practice.” This quality improvement project aims to establish a network to advance the use and access to functional electrical stimulation cycling for exercise, therapy, and recreation for individuals living with SCI. This group will be composed of individuals living with SCI, healthcare providers, researchers, and others.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities: The research coordinator will liaise between healthcare provider partners including community groups (SCI Alberta, SCI Saskatchewan, FES Society Alberta), clinicians, health care providers, individuals living with SCI and the team leads. They will assist with the preparation and submission of ethics (if deemed necessary) or quality improvement planning. They will schedule, attend, and potentially facilitate FES cycling network meetings. They will assist with managing the knowledge sharing platform, social media strategy, and potentially a fundraising initiative. The research coordinator is accountable to the principal investigator (Dr. Hope Jervis-Rademeyer).
Education: Undergraduate or entry to practice health sciences degree is required. (e.g.,, Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing, Kinesiology, etc.). Advanced degrees (i.e., Master’s and/or PhD) would be considered an asset.
Experience: Previous experience either conducting behavioural research, clinical research, or quality improvement initiatives must be demonstrated. Experience with knowledge mobilization or implementation strategies is necessary. Familiarity with the University of Saskatchewan data systems will be considered an asset. Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g., University of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Health Authority) is an asset.
Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with demonstrable examples are considered essential for this position. Computer skills with knowledge of Word, Power Point, Excel, and email are considered essential for this position. Familiarity with Rehabilitation terminology is considered essential for this position. Familiarity with knowledge sharing platforms such as Slack is an asset.
