Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Senior Manager, Institutional Analysis & Planning for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Office of the University Registrar.

Reporting to the Registrar and Associate Vice-President of Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM), you will provide leadership, direction, and systems thinking to the office of Institutional Analysis and Planning. You will direct institutional research, analysis, predictive analytics, and evaluation against accountability requirements and institutional strategic goals. As the Senior Manager, you will lead a team to ensure up-to-date student and institutional data is accessible to decision-makers and supports optimal university operations. You will foster an integrated approach to institutional analysis across the university and implement a data governance framework within IAP. In partnership with IT Services, you will ensure data accuracy and security and contribute to policy development through internal and external networks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership in the University's planning process by developing, refining and implementing data collection and reporting methodology;
  • Ensuring alignment of divisional/departmental planning with institutional priorities, guides forecasting and budgeting systems, leads data analysis and reporting for decision-making;
  • Establishing success metrics, promoting innovation and continuous improvement, integrates financial, academic, and operational data;
  • Identifying emerging issues, supporting enrolment target-setting and reporting, overseeing change management strategies, and staying current on trends and best practices in institutional research;
  • Leading and managing the Institutional Analysis and Planning team by overseeing staff workload, schedules, performance, recruitment, training, development, and resource utilization;
  • Providing strategic and operational guidance, ensuring compliance with policies, managing employee relations and performance;
  • Handling budget planning and control, and implementing Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures while fostering a positive team culture and addressing HSE concerns;
  • Providing operational leadership in the reporting and analysis of institutional metrics, ensuring compliance with government requirements, and driving expert data analysis, interpretation, and forecasting to inform institutional decision-making;
  • Leading the development of predictive analytics methodologies and technologies, ensuring data informs decision-making at all levels; facilitates strategic data usage, overseeing environmental scanning of key trends, and collaborating on survey design and data governance;
  • Working with ITS to ensure data management and governance practices align with policies and privacy laws, while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and ethical integrity;
  • Building and nurturing effective relationships with MacEwan leaders, internal stakeholders, and external partners, fostering collaborative partnerships between the Institutional Analysis and Planning team and the university community; and
  • Ensuring alignment with strategic goals and proactively engaging to meet client needs; maintaining strong networks with external institutions, consultants, vendors, regulators, and government officials, ensuring timely responses to information requests and enhancing the university's reputation through community, governmental, and educational liaison activities.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • Expertise in gathering, analyzing and reporting on complex data in the post-secondary education sector;
  • Strong knowledge of data science, statistical principles, and statistical software.
  • Advanced skills in data extraction, manipulation, analysis, and reporting;
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills, including fostering a culture of engagement and collaboration with a strong initiative and follow-through;
  • Strategic thinking with creativity, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities;
  • A track record of successfully managing complex projects and delivering impactful outcomes;
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to translate business needs into data-driven strategies and deliverables;
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, negotiation, and communication skills; verbal, written, and presentation skills to effectively convey technical information and concepts;
  • Expertise in survey design and project management principles, including change management expertise to lead/direct activities related to Institutional Analysis and Planning;
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and statistical software and reporting tools with an understanding of relational databases; and
  • Leadership experience in a unionized environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a degree in Data Science, Math, Statistics, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in advanced data analysis and institutional reporting, preferably in a higher education environment, including a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
