Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Makerspace Programs Assistant for a Full-Time Continuing opportunity with our Library. Reporting to the Manager, Library Operations, you will work closely with the Makerspace Librarian and Makerspace Coordinator. You will be responsible for reviewing, updating, developing, implementing, and maintaining Makerspace materials, resources and learning objects. In collaboration with the Makerspace Librarian and Makerspace Coordinator, you will also be developing and delivering Makerspace programming. This includes support for both current Makerspace programs and new initiatives and projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering Makerspace educational and promotional materials, resources, workshops, group instruction and learning objects, specifically, but not limited to: 3D object design, VR experience, and learning to code;
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining new Makerspace programming, including educational materials, resources, and learning objects, locating, organizing and critiquing materials for quality, accessibility, applicability, compatibility, security, cost, technology requirements, documentation, and licensing;
  • Participating in planning, researching, and developing new and innovative programming for the Makerspace aligned with and contributing to other initiatives in the Learning and Engagement unit (e.g., Writing Centre programs) and the Library, including cutting edge programming to support innovation in teaching and learning at MacEwan, in line with meeting library and institutional strategic goals;
  • Assisting with reviewing, updating, developing, maintaining, and delivering Makerspace tutor training, including learning object and other materials, deliverable by hybrid methods; and
  • Analyzing the effectiveness of various forms of promotion and respond accordingly, with members of the Makerspace team or Web team as needed.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and best practices;
  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing environments;
  • The ability to independently gain new skills and areas of competence as required; and
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with a proven ability to prioritize, and meet deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a diploma or undergraduate degree relevant to media creation, design, technology, teaching.
  • Experience with coding.
  • Experience with multi-media creation, editing and promotion.
  • Experience with teaching and offering service (e.g. library, museum, public service, tech support, customer service, tutoring etc.).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
