An important part of this role is working with a multidisciplinary team that possess the ability to communicate effectively with people of all backgrounds. This role requires a strong attention to detail and a natural ability to solve problems using both theoretical and practical engineering concepts. You will work alongside a talented team of experienced professionals in the Engineering and Design team. The projects that you will be working on will vary from site grading, containment, access roads, rail lines, storage facilities, culverts, buried pipe and utilities, foundations, structural steel, building design among many others. Educating the project team effectively communicating your designs and design basis’ is a key part of this role.
The team is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and we have provided exceptional engineering services to companies located worldwide.
Requirements and Expectations:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintain a strong understanding of all relevant codes, standards, guidelines and best practices
· Use existing company templates, tools, and resources to operate day-to-day activities
· Keep management up to date on status of initiatives and working tasks
- Engineer civil and structural systems from scratch for various facilities
- Calculate pile sizes, foundation loads, structural steel loads, lifting lug loads, structural steel connection loads, drainage pond sizes, run off and culvert sizes, ditches and embankments, stockpile volumes, earthworks quantities, structural steel BOM, etc. for industrial facilities
- Engineer, sketch, and review structural analysis models, AutoCAD models, civil 3D models, structural layouts, pile layouts, piles schedules, connection details, grading plans, profiles, earthworks details, and other relevant civil and structural drawings and deliverables
- Develop DBMs, specifications, and any other relevant discipline deliverables
- Work with vendors to acquire and review vendor and subcontractor quotes and drawings
- Complete project deliverables (engineering reports, drawings, specifications) on time and within budget
- Estimate the number of hours required to engineer a specific scope of work and work within that budget
· Actively participate in and support internal and external development and training activities
· Encourage value creation initiatives.
- Preparing grading models up to various client and internal standards
- Performing and documenting quality control checks in accordance with Metricline Projects’ Quality Management Policy
- Develop 3D models and extract 2D drawings from those 3D models
- Perform revisions to engineering drawings, as marked up made by the Checkers and Leads. Verify to ensure drawing modifications are accurately and correctly carried out.
- Confirm/verify discipline scope with project team; follow procedures to monitor changes on project and inform about the changes to Discipline Lead.
- Work closely with Piping and Electrical department to coordinate the design development continuously.
- Assists in handling and answering all RFIs (Request for Information) from construction sites in a timely manner
- Conduct field surveys and prepare As-builds
- Check work of and assist in the training of less experienced drafting personnel
- Understands the project schedule; capable of defining personal and team responsibility within the project context
- Accountable, committed and dependable when it comes to completing projects on time, budget and to highest quality
- Maintain and archive project documents as required in accordance with Metricline Projects Document Control Policies
Qualifications
· The successful candidate must be registered with a Canadian provincial engineering association as a P.Eng., such as APEGA, APEGS, EGBC, etc., with approximately 6 or more years of experience in a dynamic civil and structural engineering role.
· You must be willing to practice among multiple provinces and obtain the necessary cross provincial licenses as required
· You must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and go above and beyond expectations.
· Proficiency in the AutoCAD suite including but not limited to Civil 3D is required
· Must be able to handle very detailed work and demonstrate a high level of accuracy and due diligence
· Must be willing to authenticate documents and drawings
· Must be willing to provide mentorship as needed
· Must have a great attitude and be proactive
· Proficient in MS Office
· Experience working with point clouds for 3D modelling would be an asset
