UIC is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer (Threat Monitoring and Security Awareness Lead) to join our Technology Solutions team. This role will be an IT community leader and partner responsible for threat monitoring and security awareness initiatives, helping to safeguard the university's information assets. This role includes developing security awareness campaigns, actively monitoring systems for threats, and providing Tier 2 technical support for system patches and configurations. The Cybersecurity Engineer will also aid with technical security assessments and collaborate with internal teams to enhance defenses, while staying informed on the latest cybersecurity trends and risks.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of ongoing security awareness campaigns and communications
- Actively monitor for security threats and indicators of compromise
- Provide tier 2 technical support to campus IT liaisons to patch and reconfigure systems to remediate or mitigate vulnerabilities and manage risk
- Provide tier 2 technical support to campus IT liaisons so that they can take full advantage of our suite of security tools, including researching solutions and providing hands-on support
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Remain abreast of cybersecurity news, industry trends, and best practices, offering informed recommendations for improvements and optimizations aligned with the organization's goals
- Participate in technical security assessments of university IT infrastructure and third-party services or products
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or closely related field of study.
- Minimum of 6 years of professional IT experience which includes 2 years’ experience at a supervisory or lead worker capacity
- Demonstrated experience within IS Security which includes experience in assessing, monitoring and maintaining, and evaluating information security policies and systems, including hardware, firmware and software.
- Demonstrated experience running security awareness campaigns
Preferred Qualifications:
- General knowledge of Networking, Windows Server, and/or Linux
- Strong understanding of IT administration and troubleshooting skills with a focus on cybersecurity principles and practices
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills
