Plant Scherer Compliance Team Leader
JOB SUMMARY
This position serves as the Plant Scherer’s Compliance Team Leader with overall responsibility for ensuring and documenting full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and laws, with the result being the protection of the company, the environment, and the safety and health of employees.
This position is responsible for developing and communicating strategic direction for the plant as well as ensuring clarity of accountabilities and consistency with system direction in the areas of Environmental, Emergency Response and Planning, Industrial Hygiene, Process Safety Management, RMP, Safety, Department of Homeland Security, FAA, DOT, and NERC ERO Compliance.
This incumbent will be responsible for leadership, guidance, engagement, and coordination for the work activities of Plant Scherer’s Compliance department. The person will provide coaching through performance management for each member of the team, seeking to develop the employees’ skills for future opportunities. This person will also ensure and track compliance awareness among all plant employees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related field or equivalent experience.
Experience / Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of power plant operation and how these operations impact the regulatory compliance arena preferred.
- Proven compliance experience and knowledge of Environmental, PSM, RMP, Safety & Health and NERC ERO regulatory arenas preferred.
- Experience interfacing with & knowledge of the corporate compliance and support functions preferred.
- Knowledge of the job selection process, budgeting/ accounting principles; wastewater systems; procurement principles and contract administration preferred.
- Experience managing employees to include performance management and providing strategic direction for a team is strongly preferred.
- Experience in emergency response planning and preparation preferred.
- Preferred experience with environmental monitoring and reporting, with respect to fossil plant operations

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES
- Ensure that adequate compliance programs are developed (proper allocation of resources, clear definition of roles and responsibilities for compliance, execution of training programs, corrective actions to prevent any recurrence of a discovered violation, and self-monitoring).
- Report any compliance-related problems and manage corrective actions to the plant manager.
- Provide direct communications with the Corporate Compliance Officer and corporate compliance organizations regarding company compliance efforts or compliance problems.
- Ensure all ash pond closure and decertification activities are performed in accordance with all local, state, and federal environmental codes and regulations as well as company procedures and guidelines.
- Oversee the implementation of effective safety, health, and environmental programs.
- Manage internal or external compliance reviews.
- Provide communications with corporate compliance support organizations.
- Ensure all waste and hazardous materials are removed from the site in accordance with the applicable local, state, and federal regulations and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all Industrial Hygiene and Process Safety Management and RMP regulation requirements.
- Manage the selection process for plant compliance professionals; oversee the development of annual plant compliance goals; and participate in setting goals and evaluating performance of key plant compliance personnel.
- Develop and communicate strategic direction for functional areas of responsibility
- Ensure up-to-date and effective general procedures.
- Ensure accurate and timely communications with other plant functional teams
- Conduct effective performance management and development for direct reports to include identification of training needs, ensuring efficient and effective staffing and adherence to processes.
