The MDOT MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MDOT MTA team.

DESCRIPTION
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for a Communications Specialist (Administrator I). The main purpose of the position is to provide support to the various control centers by receiving, processing, coordinating, and notifying MTA customers and Operations Management of service delays and disruptions via e-news alerts, MTA webpage, station announcements, and hyperalert (internal notifications). The Communications Specialist (CS) will monitor various systems in the Control Center for conditions which could affect MTA service, including traffic monitoring via city traffic cameras, to be proactive in identifying potential service issues for Bus Operations; group calls for notification to all bus lines; and use of the Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) system to identify bus locations. The Communication Specialist uses Public Address (PA) systems at Metro Subway Link and Light Rail Link stations to notify customers of service delays, will also post this information on MTA’s Internet and notify the MTA administration and operational staff about any service incidents due to accidents, mechanical issues/outages, and other delays that affect normal service. Additionally, the Communication Specialist will be responsible for dispatching general service updates and other information received from the Control Centers for Bus, Light Rail Link, and Metro Subway Link through various communication channels, with the use of radio, phone, and computers, in a professional and courteous manner.

This position has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. The Operations Control Center is a 24/7 environment and the person hired for this position may be required to work overnight. Weekends and holidays are a must. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

The current work schedule hours vary on a 24-hour shift.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. *** One year of administrative or professional customer service experience that includes dispatching or delivering important information to the general public.

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
