Job Description
The Application Engineer serves as the primary ProChem representative for ProChem products and services sales at one or more customer accounts. This person’s primary responsibility is to maintain and grow revenue and profitability at their assigned customer account(s). This position works closely with Regional Account Managers to ensure the revenue goals of the company are met and provides assistance at other accounts as needed.
Application Engineers may be assigned to sites with zero or multiple Operations Technicians, and the number of Operations Technicians may increase as the account needs evolve. At sites with zero Operations Technicians, the Application Engineer is also responsible for operating the system for the purposes of securing/maintaining current revenue and customer satisfaction; this provides the Application Engineer with ample insight into areas where operations, process, and products/services can be improved upon to increase revenue at the account.
This position must focus on two areas: maximizing customer retention and developing new opportunities. This individual will routinely report current and future needs within an industrial complex to company leadership as well as promote ProChem Inc. technologies to customers to that end. The Application Engineer will work closely with the Operations Technician(s) for the purposes of collaborating on efficient account management, system operations, and customer satisfaction.
This position is responsible for providing customers with the guidance and support needed throughout the full life cycle of the relationship to ensure the most effective use of ProChem’s products & services. This position will provide customers and leadership with regular account assessments that include recommendations for improvements. This person serves as ProChem’s support/services lead to the customer and provides business process, application, technology, and implementation expertise by delivering a combination of business specifications analysis, technical consulting, and project management skills. The job duties are varied and complex, utilizing independent judgement.
As part of their ongoing sales efforts, the Application Engineer will maintain a strong personal network through participation in industry associations, professional organizations, the regulatory community, and relevant certifications/continuing education. This position is responsible for generating and following up opportunities at their assigned account(s).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conducts operational activities for the purpose of growing site-specific revenue
- Interfaces with customer representatives regularly for the purposes of maintaining healthy relationships
- Provides customers with outstanding customer experiences that adhere to ProChem values, mission, and demonstrates PCI’s philosophy
- Serves as the designated point of contact for their primary customer(s); coordinates with a secondary point of contact for the(se) customer(s).
- Develops and presents professional reports and technical presentations for ProChem leadership and customer representatives
- Prepares and maintains quarterly reports, analysis, and recommendations based on customer data.
- Prepares and maintains daily service and activity reports, ensuring they are entered into the ProChem Portal
- Documents the contact details with key new business contacts per occurrence in the ProChem Portal
- Provides competitive intelligence reports
- Supports marketing initiatives proactively
- Fosters a collaborative environment within their department and across departments.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in activities such as: attending educational workshops, obtaining certification(s), participating in company organized events, reviewing professional publications, establishing networks, and participating in professional societies.

- Demonstrated experience working with the management level of an industrial organization
- Proven ability to develop and cultivate lasting customer relationships with a diverse set of internal and external constituencies.
- Working knowledge of the following ProChem business areas:
o Treatability Laboratory
o Engineering (proposals & quotes)
o Water systems (manufacturing/commissioning)
o ProChem Portal platform (reporting, scheduling, & resources)
o Account operational services
- Strong analytical capabilities, specifically related to water treatment protocols and processes; ability to perform on site jar testing and treatability studies
- Excellent organization, project management, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to “roll up one’s sleeves” and assist wherever needed
- Demonstrated understanding of various water treatment technologies and applications
- Ability to lead and maintain an analytical and technical conversation; ability to articulate complex technical information into simpler, manageable terms
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated mastery of sales and marketing processes and concepts
- Understanding of corporate policies and procedures
- Problem analysis and resolution skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and objectivity
- Bachelor’s degree with a science focus (e.g., Chemistry, Environmental Science) or a combination of a comparable amount of relevant work experience plus industry-specific training and higher education degree (in a related field such as business or marketing)
- 2 years of experience in sales or technical service related to industrial markets or relevant applications
- Previous experience as a Technical Services Representative (i.e., Technical Account Representative), Lead Environmental Technician, or Lead Operations Technician with ProChem is preferred
Flexibility in work hours, vacation, and other scheduling considerations are a must. Regional travel (including overnight) and some extended stays for special projects is required. Travel accounts for approximately 25% of the time.
- Visits to worksites will require the use of personal protective equipment, and there will be exposure to loud noise levels
- This position requires work in a variety of conditions, including both indoors and outdoor activities during a variety of weather conditions. The individual will be exposed to noise from machinery and a variety of odors. Work hours will vary and overtime hours will be required based upon the needs of the project. Travel, including overnight and often extended travel, is required.
- The position requires moderate activity with bending, stooping, lifting, and ladder work. Individuals in this position will be working around electricity, water, plumbing equipment, and a variety of chemicals used within the wastewater treatment systems.
- This position may require flexibility in work hours, vacation, and other schedule in order to successfully support both Executive and subordinate needs.
- Occasional travel is required. Telephone communication is an essential part of the job experience.
