GEI is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing and industry leading waterfront and coastal design group.We are seeking an individual aligned with our company culture and with the self-motivation required for a successful senior technical role.This position is expected to follow a hybrid model, with some time spent in the office mentoring junior engineering staff.The ideal candidate will have a background in structural engineering with experience in bridge, heavy civil, infrastructure engineering or waterfront structures.Previous experience with construction in or around water is advantageous.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Role would be focused on waterfront projects but will include opportunities to work on a variety of structural projects within our other service lines including dams, contractor support services, bridge piers, and buildings with staff from Woburn and Metro New York
- Key aspects of your role as a Senior Structural Engineer:
- Be a technical lead for structural engineering design and perform project design work.
- Support Project Managers to execute projects.
- Collaborate with technical staff across the company.
- Be a Mentor to other technical staff.
- Be a resource to the waterfront Group as a structural point person.
- Key aspect of your role as a Waterfront Design Manager
- Serve as the internal manager to develop/direct, organize, and maintain standard design procedures, including but not limited to analysis and design tools, design guides/references, technical specifications, standard details and project specific QA/QC procedures.
- Develop standard analysis and design tools as dictated by project needs, in Excel, MathCAD, Tekla Tedds, or other design software.
- Develop design library including example calculations.
- Coordinate with the GEI CAD Group to implement waterfront standards into the GEI AutoCAD/Revit Interfaces
- Maintain library of construction cost data for historic projects
- Assist in preparing proposals and develop project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Perform a wide range of structural engineering analysis and design tasks for steel, concrete, masonry, aluminum and wood structures.
- Perform structural condition surveys as a team lead inclusive of dive inspections, to document existing conditions and identify the type, cause, and extent of structural issues or deterioration. Performing underwater inspections would be limited to those requiring a P.E. diver and special inspections or as otherwise mutually agreed upon.
- Additionally, GEI would support alternative field inspections including SPRAT Certification for rope inspections if there is mutual interest.
- Prepare condition survey reports and perform structural evaluation of existing structures.
- Prepare drawings and specifications, cost estimates, and bid documents for both new construction and the repair of existing structures.
- Support construction phase of projects. Review technical design changes, site inspections for critical field changes, and review technical RFIs.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S in Civil with focus Structural Engineering
- 10+ years of experience working on structural design projects.
- Registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, or ability to obtain reciprocity in Massachusetts within 1 year of hire date.
- Experience leading engineering teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to travel occasionally for site visits / inspections, client meetings, and business development opportunities (to include overnight travel, as needed).
- Possess a valid US drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. in Structural Engineering
- Prior experience in marine, bridge, or heavy civil engineering design is preferred.
