About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our Hub and Edge team. The ideal candidate will excel at collaborating with product management, engineering teams, and external partners to align platform capabilities with partner requirements, driving innovation and advancing the platform in alignment with technical and business strategies. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong cross-functional communication skills, and the ability to engage effectively with external stakeholders.

A successful candidate will bring a strong background in connected platforms, particularly those integrating embedded systems and cloud-based solutions. Your experience and vision will be instrumental in shaping the future of the platform, fostering innovation, and delivering impactful solutions.


Key Responsibilities


This position is a hybrid role, based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Minneapolis, MN.

In this role, your primary responsibilities will include the following:
  • Drive and support the Hub and Edge platform's architectural vision and technical roadmap, ensuring scalability, reliability, and innovation.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Partner with product management/cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business and customer needs.
  • Platform development:
    • Design, develop, and enhance the Hub and Edge platform, focusing on connected solutions that span embedded and cloud systems.
    • Identify and resolve technical challenges related to platform performance, scalability, and security.
    • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement within the platform to align with company goals and industry trends.
    • Contribute to the technical and business strategy of the platform, balancing current needs with future scalability.
    • Proactively identify risks and implement mitigations to maintain the platform’s stability and reliability.
  • Clearly articulate technical concepts and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership and external partners.

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)
  • BA/BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • 12+ years of professional experience in a software engineering role.
  • Expertise in embedded systems and strong familiarity with cloud-native architectures (we are an AWS shop).
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Rust, C, C++, Python, and Java, and tools like Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of IoT ecosystems, secure software practices, and device-to-cloud communication protocols.
  • Proven experience in technical leadership, mentoring teams, and driving architectural decisions.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills for engaging with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, emerging IoT standards, and modern software development best practices.

Base compensation range for this position is $154,982 to $232,473. Actual base within this range will depend on many factors including experience, skills, technical expertise and market alignment. In addition, this role is eligible for a 25% annual target bonus.
