Job Description

The Area Sales Representative will lead, direct, and oversee the safe and effective daily retail aggregate operations of an assigned territory, while maintaining high quality communications between our existing customer base, future customers, and the operating departments. This person will also be responsible for pricing, quoting, and estimating. Lastly, as part of this work, this person is expected to create a values-based culture that aligns with the company’s mission, vision, and core values.

Wendling Quarries, Inc. (WQI) is a third-generation family owned and operated business that produces crushed stone, sand and gravel for individuals and businesses in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

Job Position Details

Title: Area Sales Representative

Department: Sales

Reports To: VP of Sales

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership. Work diligently on setting and achieving self-improvement goals consistent with VBL Core Values and help inspire others to do the same (Coach). Create a culture of respect, trust, and teamwork that will develop the outward mindset of “emerging leaders”. Leads in alignment with Wendling’s mission, vision, and values while modeling servant leadership.(Approximately 10% of time is spent on this function)
  • People and Culture: Work with direct reports to develop Performance Management Plans and to implement any necessary Performance Improvement Plans (Approximately 20% of time is spent on this function)
  • Operational Management: Work closely with the Quality Control Department in monitoring specifications of products. Work closely with the Production and Mine Services Departments to ensure products are available when and where needed. Establish pricing for various projects when they are bid as well as yearly pricing to customers. Works closely with the logistics coordinator to ensure the scheduling of delivery trucks (internal and external), loader operators, scale clerks, are meeting the needs of the customers. Analyze monthly sales, trucking, accounts receivable reports. Provide information to the VP Sales pertaining to projects bidding, bid results, and project scheduling as necessary. Keep fully abreast of the current marketing condition and the activities of competitors. Grow market share through effective sales strategies Ensure a high level of customer service is provided by all employees to all past, present, and future customers. (Approximately 40% of time is spent on this function)
  • Networking & Relationships: Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers, including contractors, counties, Iowa DOT, and cities within your market area. (Approximately 30% of time is spent on this function)

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree is preferred

Education Major: Construction, Engineering, or Business related

Direct Reports: 1-5 Resident Loader Operators

Behavioral Requirements: Adherence to the company values and associated behaviors. Compliance with company policies.

Business / Technical Knowledge

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with Google Maps/Google Earth
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.Adequate communication skills with all levels of the company, front line to executives
  • Proficient in pricing strategy development and implementation

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year

  • Monday to Friday
