Job Description

The Building Owners and Managers Association of BC (BOMA BC) is the largest commercial real estate association in BC. We offer our members advocacy, environmental programs, education, and an array of networking events.

BOMA BC has recently become part of a consortium of similar organizations that have joined together to develop a program of capacity building for energy reduction and decarbonization of real estate assets. With funding from the Federal Government for a Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative (DRAI), BOMA has built a three-year program (2 ½ years remain) that invites building owners and managers to participate in a maturity-model program that identifies their specific gaps and opportunities then assists them in aligning resources to initiate carbon reduction projects.

About this role:

In this key role, you will be responsible for working closely with our Program Managers as well as indirectly with building owners, managers and their building operations teams to investigate, plan, and allocate resources to accelerate strategic decarbonization programs for a large number of commercial buildings.

Reporting to the Program Director, this role requires strong time management skills, exceptional communication skills and the ability to work with a highly collaborative team of internal and external partners as we build strategic and actionable pathways to decarbonize the commercial buildings sector in BC, in alignment with both regional and Provincial climate goals.

A familiarity with decarbonization practices and GHG emissions regulations will be essential requirements for this role; as will a solid understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical and electrical systems, building automation and lighting systems.

An understanding of relevant governmental initiatives and funding programs (at all levels), legislation, policies, code requirements and best practices in energy conservation within industry and professional organizations will also be important to this role.

SPECIFIC Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist Program Managers with the intake of new program participants (commercial buildings) by collecting and organizing building data for program participation.
  • Assist Program Managers with development of energy assessments, including running energy modelling, retrofit scenarios and payback periods.
  • Assist Program Managers with business case development and presentations to program participants showcasing possible energy conservation measures and retrofit recommendations.
  • Coordinate training-related needs for building operations staff. Source and align further resources to fulfill such gaps.
  • Coordinate the delivery models for our program decarbonization roadmaps / AI tool. This involves inputting building systems and equipment data into the resource platform, aligning metrics with the program participants’ goals, and then training program participants on how to use the online tool to ensure they derive its full value.
  • Develop building and organizational case studies stemming from program wins. Case studies will showcase energy efficiency and decarbonization activities in terms of energy, GHG and costs savings scenarios as well as larger corporate objectives of cost avoidance, regulatory compliance, and environmental performance.
  • Remain current on available market incentives for commercial applications of energy and emission reductions and advise the program team accordingly.

QUALIFICATIONS

As the ideal candidate, you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a degree in Environmental Management or related discipline.

or

  • Completion of energy management training such as Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Energy Manager, Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET)
  • Fundamental knowledge of concepts, theories, practices and techniques in energy conservation and environmental sustainability.
  • Strong relationship management, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade others and build collaborative relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Experience in energy modelling and project costing.
  • Ability to develop and write clear and comprehensive reports.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to plan and manage time.
