The ADE Office of Computer Science team is seeking applicants for a K-12 Statewide Computer Science Specialist position. This Computer Science Specialist will work as part of our team to support meeting the mission, vision, and goals of the Arkansas Computer Science and Computing Initiative.Candidates that are located close to or are able to travel daily to one of the areas of the state where we do not have an existing specialist, or have need for an additional specialist, are desired. These areas include West Central, North Central, and Central Arkansas. Regardless of placement, the selected individual will be an employee of Arch Ford Education Service Co-op.**Qualifications include the following: Bachelors degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, data sciences, or other computing / technological field.Three to five years of recent computer science or computing teaching experience or three to five years of industry experience in a computer science or computing position.

Hold a current Arkansas Teaching License (preferred) *Any applicant not holding the 528 licensure endorsement must take and pass the current Praxis assessment within 12 months of hire. Experience in a specialty field such as data science or artificial intelligence preferred but not requiredExperience in adult-learning situations and team problem solving.Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of the interview committee and board of directors. Applicant must demonstrate a thorough knowledge in the following: The Arkansas Computer Science and Computing InitiativeIn one or more of the following text languages: Python, Java, C languages, PHP, and Swift.Classroom implementationK-8 Embedded computer science standardsMiddle School Introduction to Coding computer science standardsYear 1, 2, and 3 HS computer science standardsUnderstanding the implications of the Arkansas K-12 Computer Science and Computing StandardsCurrent research and best practices in computer science and computing as well as computer science and computing curriculum Efficient use of current technology in instruction as well as for communication Duties and Activities will include the following: Work with the #CSforAR team under the direction of the ADE Office of Computer Science to support the CS Initiative statewide Develop online training and build teaching resources through collaborative efforts with other team members across the stateProvide professional development opportunities across the state in both face-to-face and online training Provide ongoing support through on-site technical assistance in districts, models of best practices, observation, and coaching of instructional facilitators and K-12 educators and administratorsMaintain current knowledge of research and effective practices in research-based computer science curricula, instruction, assessment, and professional developmentAssist K-8 content teachers as well as administrators with embedding computer science standards into other content areas by modeling effective instructionAssist high school computer science teachers, as well as administrators, with selecting and implementing appropriate programs of study for the school, and providing effective instructional practices to meet state requirementsMaintain accurate records to fulfill job requirements and submit information to the Arkansas Department of Education and/or Arch Ford Arkansas ESC as requestedWork with other service cooperative content specialists to develop cross-curricular connections to computer science contentOther duties as assigned by the State Director of Computer SciencePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Specialist will be required to stand for long periods of time to provide professional learning opportunities to teachers (approximately 6 hours per day), walk to interact with teachers, sit, stoop, or crouchUse hands to handle or feel, type, and pick up objects, and reach with hands and armsTalk and hear to communicate effectively.Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
