As the Benefits Director, you will plan and direct the overall design, implementation, communication, compliance and administration of the health and welfare and retirement benefits programs. You will ensure these programs adhere to current regulations and support the company’s strategic total rewards objectives. The Director plays a key strategic role in ensuring programs are current and competitive with regards to trends, practices, and costs for a diverse workforce comprised of salaried and hourly employees across the US and Canada. You will lead the annual benefits budget development and analysis process, ensuring programs are cost-effective and a team of benefits professionals as well as numerous teams with outsourced benefits record keepers. In addition, you will partner with Senior leaders and external providers to ensure best-in-class service. The position reports to the Vice President of Total Rewards.
**The candidate will be hired as a Senior Manager, Benefits or Director, Benefits depending upon experience. This role is hybrid from our Stamford, Charlotte, or Scottsdale corporate offices. Open to fully remote for candidates outside of these locations.
What you'll do:
Develops benefit strategy in partnership with our broker/vendors for our health, welfare, wellness, financial, recognition and paid time-off programs; analyze plans’ market competitiveness, financial performance, compliance and team member engagement, and devise a cohesive, holistic and comprehensive benefits strategy that delivers plans that are innovative, aligned with external market trends, cost competitive and meet the current and future needs for our valued team members.
Manages vendor review and selection and partnerships to ensure service level agreements and related performance requirements are achieved. Acts as relationship manager for each significant benefits vendor contract, ensuring all contractual provisions are complied with and all service level agreements, including employee satisfaction, are being met or exceeded. Conducts period/regular vendor performance reviews and ensures all near and longer-term operational requirements and goals are being met.
Uses financial data, vendor analysis and internal data analytics to monitor effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for changes, model cost impact and present recommendations. Leads carrier and benefits consultant periodic financial reviews and prepares annual functional budget for approval and oversee all benefits-related expenses and tracking/analysis to budget.
Develop effective benefits training and communications strategies, tools and processes to optimize perceived value, improve employee engagement and ensure regulatory compliance, and increase the value delivered to new and existing employees.
Drive health, wellness, safety and sustainability initiatives through program/incentive design and internal coordination with key stakeholders that engages our employees in fun and creative ways.
Build strong relationships with internal business partners and works cross-functionally with stakeholders (e.g., HR Business Partners, Compensation, HRIS, M&A, Finance, Accounting, HR Support Center, Legal, Sourcing, and Operations and Technology teams).
Ensure compliance with country-specific requirements such as COBRA, ACA, ERISA, and HIPAA and other regional, country, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Direct and supervise the work of the benefits team. Actively engage with team members to create and maintain a positive work environment that allows employees to perform at their best. Management of in-person and/or hybrid/remote team members.
Provide regular feedback on employee’s overall effectiveness in their individual and job performance and communicate/administer areas of improvement. Establish goals and objectives, conduct performance and compensation reviews.
Lead interviewing/hiring efforts, training, coaching and development of team.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Management or other related discipline
Master’s degree preferred
7 - 10 years of progressive HR benefits experience leading all aspects of US and Canada benefits strategy, design, administration, and compliance
A successful track record of working effectively in a large fast-growing organization
Experience assessing, selecting, and managing partners and vendors
Experience managing and executing a multi-million-dollar self-funded benefits budget
Comprehensive understanding of multi-state benefits compliance including knowledge of ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125
Demonstrated management skills and experience in developing and growing talent
Ability to successfully manage vendors and develop strategic partnerships
Excellent business acumen, project management, presentation, and written communication skills
Skill in leading large benefits initiatives and the ability to apply expertise to support a fast-paced growing enterprise
Deep understanding of interdependencies in benefit program and systems design, as well as legal, financial and tax implications of benefits programs and decisions
Ability to translate data into impactful insights that drive solutions to complex problems across the organization
Solid decision making, problem solving, consulting, influencing, relational and partnering skills
Participates in professional networks and/or stays up to date on current research to ensure awareness of social, economic, and regulatory trends that may affect the business and future benefit strategies
Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) or CEBs accreditation is a plus
High level of proficiency in MS Office products and exceptional analytic skills
Workday experience highly desirable
May require long working days during the annual compensation process. Limited travel
