Job Title: CommUNITY School Coordinator

ReportsTo: Chief Education Officer at NNH; School Principal

Location: Soddy Daisy Middle School

Classification: Full-Time, Salary, Exempt

Since 1924, the Northside Neighborhood House has focused on empowering residents north of the Tennessee River to create thriving communities across northern Hamilton County. From ensuring individuals are housed with working utilities to supporting students in achieving academic success, the NNH focuses on creating relationships and connecting individuals to supports that aid them in creating stability for themselves and their families. Program Summary: Through our CommUNITY School model, Northside Neighborhood House CommUNITY School Coordinators partner with school administration to identify and provide wrap-around support to meet the physical, social, and emotional needs of the school community. This work focuses on the four pillars of the national community school model: integrated student supports, expanded and enriched learning time and opportunities; active family and community engagement, and collaborative leadership.

Position Summary: The CommUNITY School Coordinator will execute the vision for and oversee all activities of the CommUNITY School. The CommUNITY School Coordinator will secure and coordinate services and programs that occur on site by applying national community school best practices from a whole child approach. This person will work closely with the NNH, Principal, and key stakeholders to plan services and evaluate successes. A successful candidate will have demonstrated success in developing positive and supportive relationships with students and their families, identifying community resources, coordinating services to meet SEL needs, developing and implementing relevant programming and reporting outcomes, including after school programming.

Typical Working Conditions/Environment: This position is based in a school. It is both an office-based and community-based position. Work location & environment may vary as needed to fully support programming.

Schedule: Typical schedule will be Monday – Thursday from 8:30am – 5:30pm and Fridays from 8:30am – 12:30pm. Regular, punctual attendance is expected of all employees. Schedule may vary as needed to fully support programming.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education or related field.
  • Two or more years of school related experience preferred
  • Two or more years of nonprofit experience preferred
  • Knowledge of & familiar with the community school model preferred
  • Supervisory experience helpful

Equipment/Technology:

  • Must be able to use a computer & web-based services
  • Must be able to use and quickly learn new software to support agency priorities.
  • Familiarity with Google suite & MS suite preferred

Skills/Abilities:

  • Understands the importance of the whole child approach to learning.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships across all CS stakeholder groups
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with both youth and adults.
  • Able to communicate with and motivate youth and adults.
  • Professional, organized, thorough and gives attention to details.
  • Creative and takes initiative with new ideas.
  • Able to follow instruction, be self-reflective and accept feedback.
  • Knowledgeable about and follows ethical practices in a social service context, especially confidentiality.
  • Able to work in harmony with other members of the CommUNITY School team.
  • Dependable, punctual and honest in dealing with time, money and materials.
  • Excellent with time management.
  • Able to be flexible with work hours.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Physical Skills:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for long periods of time.
  • Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching.
  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, telephone and other office equipment.
  • Requires hearing and vision necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch and lift up to and sometimes over 20lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
