The Role
The Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe working environment for all employees. This role will collaborate with various departments to identify and mitigate potential hazards, implement best practices, and drive a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement company-wide environmental health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards in the workplace and develop strategies to mitigate risks
- Provide leadership and guidance to EHS staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote safety awareness and compliance
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with permits, licenses, and reporting requirements
- Oversee development and delivery of comprehensive EHS training programs for employees and managers to increase awareness and promote a culture of safety
- Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance
- Oversee and assist with investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence
- Manage emergency response and crisis management procedures, including coordination with relevant stakeholders and authorities
- Stay informed about emerging EHS regulations, trends, and best practices, and recommend appropriate actions to ensure compliance and improve EHS performance
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on EHS performance, initiatives, and areas for improvement
Skills
- Professional certification in environmental, health, and safety (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)) is highly desirable
- Progressive experience in environmental health and safety leadership roles, manufacturing environment experience
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other relevant agencies
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, analyze data, and develop effective solutions
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful EHS programs and initiatives
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations and trainings to diverse audiences
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work cross functionally, including explaining designs and concepts to all levels of employees and management
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally verbally and in writing
- Excellent time management skills, including multi-tasking, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, follow up and attention to details
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or Google Suite
- Willingness and ability to travel to support construction
Compensation
Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on skills, education, experience, and location is $180,000 - $220,000 annually for Hayward, CA and surrounding areas.
