POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Information Technology Manager, the IT Business Analyst plays a pivotal role in optimizing business operations and ensuring that technical solutions meet the needs of Westbank First Nation. The role requires a highly motivated, technical individual with strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. As ambassadors for change, this position understands the fundamentals of project management, and can research and recommend changes or enhancements to systems and business processes. Possessing service excellence and quality assurance, this role builds collaborative working relationships between the IT team and WFN departments. Skilled in business analysis and related toolsets, they identify efficiencies that drive innovation.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business analysis, computer science, business administration, information management, or related discipline from a recognized institution or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- 5 years in a technology-driven, IT Business Analyst position.
- Strong understanding of computer networks, databases, and applications.
- Skilled in Microsoft 365 and related applications.
- Expertise in Microsoft SQL and Power BI is an asset.
- Understanding of cloud computing, corporate financial software and document management systems is an asset.
- Experience working in a local government or First Nation setting is an asset.
- Experience in Project Management and or Change Management is an asset.
REQUIREMENTS
- Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and Acceptable Driver’s Abstract and personal vehicle required.
- Ability to work occasionally outside of standard business hours to facilitate projects or deadlines.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of Westbank First Nation.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES
- Liaises between the IT team and WFN departments to facilitate the planning and implementation of new systems, and business processes or for enhancements to existing systems and business processes.
- Documents, analyzes, and assesses existing business processes to identify areas for improvement and technological investment.
- Utilizes a variety of techniques to capture and define departmental current state issues and business requirements including developing detailed business cases, ROI (return on investment) calculations, value definition, gap, and cost-benefit analyses.
- Translates business needs into clear and concise functional specifications for the IT team and other stakeholders.
- Proactively identifies areas where business processes, policies, and procedures can benefit from change.
- Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation for business requirements and processes, workflows, system specifications, and training materials.
- Plans and coordinates necessary software application upgrades and integrations with IT team and often with third parties.
- Recommends new software when required, including reviewing potential software, attending demos, providing cost benefit analysis, and ensuring adherence to IT governance and any other related policies.
- Researches developments and trends in new or existing business systems, technology products or tools; participates in assessing potential value to the organization; and makes related recommendations to the IT Manager and team.
- Identifies potential impacts of system changes on the organization, users, and integrated systems.
- Supports the training and development of data stewards within various departments to improve efficiencies and maintain business continuity.
- Participates in orientation and training of end users with respect to new or modified systems or business processes.
- Assists colleagues with support and troubleshooting of any IT service desk tickets that pertain to or arise from assigned tasks.
- Leads stakeholder meetings to facilitate discussions on software or systems implementations, enhancements, patches, and upgrades; works to drive consensus.
- Provides quality assurance and testing to drive user acceptance for changes to business processes or systems.
- Ensures technological recommendations or enhancements align with compliance and audit requirements, risk management best practices, and IT governance procedures and policies.
- Develops and maintains reports and dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics for assigned tasks.
- Participates in regular departmental meetings to discuss current assignments, provide status updates, and deliver expertise on relevant issues or concerns.
- Alerts IT Manager immediately on any high-risk matters pertaining to security.
- Communicates effectively and respectfully to everyone at all levels.
- Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning; takes on other duties as assigned.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Proficient in business process modeling tools, reporting and documentation techniques (workflow diagrams, charts, etc.).
- Can effectively translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for various audiences (business users, technical teams, and senior leadership).
