PROGRAM SUPERVISOR – EARLY LEARNING AND CHILD CARE CENTRE


PLASP Child Care Services is a charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality early learning and child care, for children up to 12 years of age. PLASP operates in more than 240 schools providing before school, lunch, and after school programs and 30 full-day early learning and child care centres and six EarlyON locations for children from 0 – 6 years


The curriculum for PLASP Centres is based on the HighScope® approach, where children develop important skills including language, pre-math and pre-reading skills. The daily routine is designed to allow time for the children to explore and learn independently and for the adults to plan more structured teaching time. All programing incorporate the Ministry of Education pedagogy, How Does Learning Happen? The PLASP Centres also follow other quality initiatives like Raising the Bar, AQI, and PQA.

THE POSITION INVOLVES…


The successful candidate will provide a full range of duties, including:


  • Assisting in establishing and maintaining a safe, warm, and caring environment in which a high quality Child Care Program can operate.
  • Working co-operatively with the Program Director and other ELCCC staff to plan, develop and implement a high scope program that provides leadership and guidance activities for young children which will promote their physical, social, emotional and intellectual well-being.
  • Demonstrating a knowledge of How Does Learning Happen? and the CCEYA
  • Working in conjunction with the Program Director and other program staff to plan and implement a program of activities including crafts, games, music, dramatic play, large & small group activities and special events
  • Carries out attendance checks regularly throughout the day and ensures that attendance records clearly indicate whether the child is present in the centre at any given moment.
  • Being aware at all times of the number of children in the group and of each child's whereabouts.
  • Following all PLASP Health & Safety policy and procedures as outlined in the Health and Safety Manual.

THE PREFFERED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A diploma/degree in Early Childhood Education or training which is deemed equivalent by the Ministry of Education
  • Valid registration with the College of ECE’s
  • Experience working with groups of young children
  • Knowledge of the Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA) and Ministry of Education Licensing requirements
  • A valid Standard First Aid Certificate, with level C CPR
  • A valid original Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check, completed within the last six months
  • All health requirements (immunizations) to be met in accordance with the CCEYA and Medical Officer of Health
