General Accountability and Summary

The ideal candidate will possess and extensive network in mining, oil & gas, and infrastructure sectors, and will be responsible for leading initiatives to generate new business for the company including engaging with clients and business partners. The ideal candidate will be focused and have strong communication and relationship skills. Critical thinking when developing new business opportunities, and the ability to execute business development strategies are a must. Responsible for corporate growth, sales performance and developing an extensive client base, the Business Development Manager will work closely with the Operational Management Team, and will strive to maximize business performance, profitability, and team effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sales and marketing strategies for profitable penetration into new or existing markets and regions globally.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with customers and clients, and work with stakeholders to determine needs and develop value-added strategies.
  • Assume lead role in business generation and deal execution.
  • Conduct market research analysis to develop high-impact marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Have a strong understanding of industry benchmark billing rates for the services offered and how competitive TMG’s service offer is in relation to similar consultants.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the corporate revenue growth plan.
  • Monitor the impact of marketing and sales activities and assist in the development of marketing literature.
  • Responsible for all aspects relating to proposal and presentation development and client deliverables as they relate to all client stages from prospecting, and implementation, to account management.
  • Work in conjunction with the appropriate Group Manger(s) and Project Managers (collectively the Sales Team) to make bid / no-bid decisions and establish bid strategies.
  • Work in conjunction with the Sales Team and external contractors and suppliers as required to ensure a fit-for-purpose client solutions are developed.
  • Work with the Sales Team to prepare an accurate overall cost estimate for each project scope.
  • Utilize TMG’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) system (Salesforce) for documentation and reporting of client engagement and proposal activities by maintaining up-to-date and accurate system data, including any changes to contacts (phone or email) or job changes.
  • Prepare detailed and precise bid documentation in accordance with TMG standard procedures and in compliance with customers’ bid requirements, identifying and documenting exceptions and clarifications. Craft custom execution plans, develop budgets, and estimate resource allocations.
  • Work closely with Marketing to compile, develop, assess, and maintain appropriate proposal exhibits, appendices, project profiles, and illustrative documents.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings as a hand-off to Project Management and prepare and provide a complete handover package including technical and commercial details.
  • Attend customer meetings as necessary to develop customer solutions and provide commercial support in closing sales.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships with Engineering firms to maintain TMG’s competitive positioning in Project Management services.
  • Nurture broad relationships with existing and prospective clients, across different sectors, with a strong focus on mining.
  • Responsible to meet annual sales targets globally and identify new business opportunities for TMG services.
  • Manage complex customer situations, meeting commitments and responding promptly to customer needs.
  • Follow-up on established Marketing Qualified Leads and interface with Marketing department as required.
  • Manage all Sales Managers and Business Development professionals on active leads to drive corporate revenue targets.
  • Represent TMG at key conferences and trade shows.
  • Regular site visits to active and prospective clients’ mines sites as part of the tendering process, or as part of post-award relationship management.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Strong document creation, preparation, editing and overall management skills using the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Equally comfortable at a mine site or in an office.
  • Confidence, honesty, and motivation are high rewarded skills for this role.

Experience, Qualifications & Education

  • 10+ years experience in the mining and metals industry.
  • 5+ years in sales selling a solution / in a service industry.
  • Proven working experience in a business development, sales executive, or other relevant role.
  • Experience in customer support.
  • Experience in Proposal development and execution plan development for EPC / EPCM projects in the Mining Sector required.
  • Experience directing internal and external teams involved in multiple activities.
  • Experience in development execution plans, budgets, and schedules required.
  • Willing and able to travel for business development activities.
  • Ability to build personal rapports.
  • Experience in database setup and management would be an asset.
  • Bilingual French/English would be an asset.

  • External Relationships: Mining Companies, Contractors, Vendors, Engineering Consulting Firms, personnel from other companies, financial institutions, government regulators.

Job Type: Freelance

Pay: $50,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
