Job Description
Position Summary:
Under supervision, provides law enforcement on the Tribe’s undeveloped rural lands for increased community safety and protection of natural resources and archeological sites; conducts high visibility patrol and investigates archeological and environmental crimes; performs general police work including but not limited to the enforcement of law and order, and traffic enforcement and control.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrols undeveloped lands in Hungry Valley area with 4x4 police vehicle, ATV, and on foot to prevent violations and misconduct and provides public information about applicable Tribal ordinances
- Enforces RSIC environmental and solid waste (illegal dumping) ordinances, and the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
- Protects archaeological resources and investigates violations of Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA).
- Coordinates enforcement and investigations with Tribal patrol and criminal investigations division.
- Monitors and conducts wildland fire investigations, in coordination with fire service agencies.
- Works with special mission teams, including but not limited to, wildfire suppression, search and rescue, and emergency medical response.
- Operates an unmanned aerial system unit (Drone) compliant with FAA regulations
- Performs traffic enforcement and control, including illegal trespass by ATV and dirt bike users; arrest and apprehend criminal suspects
- Record daily activity and maintain data for reporting requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have Nevada State Category 1 P.O.S.T. Certification at time of hire;
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age at time of hire;
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year of law enforcement experience with knowledge of police methods, procedures, and techniques, or completion of accredited college or university courses in criminology, police science, or law;
- Must obtain a Bureau of Indian Affairs Special Law Enforcement Commission, within one year after hire
- Demonstrated oral and written skills;
- Demonstrated ability to lift, carry, pull, or push up to 185 pounds, ability to see with at least 20/20 corrected vision in one eye with a minimum of 20/30 corrected vision in the other eye, ability to stand, sit, or climb for prolonged periods of time, and hearing sufficient to communicate via two-way radio;
- Must be able to pass an in-depth criminal history background check and pass a medical and physical agility test.
- Ability to work overtime and shift rotation.
PLEASE NOTE: Hiring preference will be given to qualified tribal members of Reno-Sparks Indian Colony followed by members of other federally recognized tribes. Must pass and comply with the HR Policy 164.905- PL101.630. The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony requires a designated candidate to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and confirmation of professional references and certifications.
