JOB SUMMARY
The Business Development Manager plays a crucial role in the insurance industry, focusing on strategic growth and client acquisition for a real estate lending focused product. Here is an overview of the key responsibilities, skills, and qualifications typically associated with this role:

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement business development strategies to increase market share and achieve revenue targets
  • Market Analysis: Conduct research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive landscape in the insurance market
  • Client Acquisition: Build and maintain relationships with potential clients, brokers, and other stakeholders to secure new business opportunities
  • Sales and Marketing: Collaborate with marketing teams to design and execute campaigns that promote insurance products and services
  • Networking: Attend industry events, conferences, and networking functions to connect with potential clients and partners
  • Proposal Development: Prepare and present proposals and presentations to prospective clients, highlighting the benefits of insurance products
  • Collaboration: Work closely with underwriting, claims, and risk management teams to ensure alignment in service delivery and client expectations
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of business development strategies and initiatives
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all business development activities comply with industry regulations and standards
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field. A master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARM)
  • Required: P&C License
  • Required: Minimum of 3 years experience with Excess and Surplus line experience a plus
  • Strong understanding of insurance products, market dynamics, and regulatory environments. 5+ years in the E&S underwriting and/or marketing space and wants to be in an elevated role with high-level strategic initiatives
  • Proven experience in sales or business development, particularly in the insurance sector
  • Ability to analyze market data and financial reports to inform decision-making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with clients and internal teams
  • Strong negotiation abilities to close deals and foster partnerships.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
  • Strong people skills to build and maintain professional relationships
ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently
  • Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
  • Could involve some lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time without much movement
  • Ability to work in time-sensitive environment with non-flexible deadlines
  • All candidates must have the ability to speak, read and write English
  • Excellent Excel skills and system database proficiency
  • Possess the following competencies: adaptability/flexibility, communications, decision making/judgment, interpersonal skills, personal organization, problem solving/analysis
  • Ability to work under pressure and make informed decisions
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week
