Welder – Job Description
The preferred candidate will possess Knowledge and Skill in the following welding processes on ASME Code Pressure Vessels, and must be an expert in at least one * discipline:
*SMAW
*GTAW
*FCAW
Carbon Arc Gouging
Plasma Cutting and Gouging
Preference will be given to a Red Seal Welder or to a College Diploma in Welding
TSSA and CWB tickets must be provided to certify the welder’s abilities and to ASME Code Shop Experience with CS, SS (Austenitic and Duplex), and Low Alloy materials.
The candidate must demonstrate a general knowledge of Welding Symbols, Welding Procedures, Fabrication Drawings, Visual Weld Inspection, LPI and other Welding Quality Assurance Procedures.
The welder must also be competent in:
- Reading blueprints
- Manual Flame Cutting
- Grinding
- Weld Preparation by Grinding or Cutting
- Achieving Specified Accuracy and Tolerances
Operation of Machines Applicable to the Task
The Welder must demonstrate competence using the following shop equipment, associated with fabricating pressure vessels, heat exchangers, gas exchangers, and associated distribution piping, and fittings:
- Welding Machines - TIG
- Welding Machines - Stick
- Bevel Machines
- Large Bandsaw
- Manual Plasma machine
Training & Education
The welder may be qualified by any combination education and experience in the shop, so long as he/she can demonstrate skill and competence as described in the preceding paragraphs:
- Highschool
- College – Applicable Training
- Apprenticeship
- Work Experience including:
- * Crane Operation
*
- Forklift Operation
- WHMIS Training
- Confined Space
- Fall Arrest
Prospective Welders will be evaluated on their skills and will also be evaluated on their productivity, HSE Results, Maintenance and Care of Machines and Tools, People Skills, Attendance, Versatility (Other shop skills), Housekeeping, and Parts Identification.
The productivity of welders will be evaluated based upon Performance (Quantity of Work), Work Ethic, Technical Results (Quality), Accountability, Innovation and Improvement, and Self Management and Initiative.
A welding performance test will be administered to all candidates to evaluate their skill level prior to receiving an offer of employment.
