Job Description
Mid Level Landscape Architect (Brooklyn)
At Sasaki we purposefully take on challenging work that we see as opportunities to evolve and stretch. As such, we look for teammates who are excited to engage fully from the get-go. Ideas matter tremendously around here and as a Sasaki designer you will be encouraged to have a point of view, to share your thinking often, to push design further, and to develop a comfortable rapport with clients. For a mid-sized firm, we guard our small-firm feel focusing less on hierarchy than on working together to yield the best designs.
Our Landscape Architecture, Ecology, and Civil Engineering discipline is seeking an exceptional collaborator to join our dynamic New York studio - someone who embodies our commitment to design excellence and can bring their unique perspective to our collaborative process.
The most successful candidates can deliver design excellence, attention to detail, organization and time management skills, and potential to grow into leadership roles over time. Not every designer needs to deliver on all of these attributes at once, but this is the mix of talent we seek. If you think you can add something special to our team and our practice we would love to hear from you.
What you bring:
- Design chops – you’ve got vision, creativity, and skills. You have a strong working knowledge of the public realm, bringing together a bold, creative, design expression with a thoughtful approach to sustainability, green infrastructure, resilience, ecology, and have an interest in detailed design, including material selection, construction techniques, and planting design.
- Collaborative spirit – the idea of interdisciplinary teamwork gets you excited.
- Passion – you have a healthy dose of ambition for yourself, your team, the work (and the firm you’ll come to love)
- Proactive resourcefulness – you’re energetic and positive about solving problems and take initiative to find a way to ‘yes.’ You are self-motivated and can manage your time effectively while juggling multiple projects.
- Growth-orientation – you’re curious and want to find greater ways to positively impact the world around you.
- Humanistic sensibility – you design for people and enjoy working with others.
- Drive - you enjoy writing thought leadership and the pursuit of winning new work and have an aptitude for developing proposals, forming teams and attending interviews.
- Leadership – you’re comfortable guiding teams, mentoring staff, listening and incorporating the ideas of others, and are excited to represent Sasaki to clients and the greater design community.
What you’ll do:
- Manage internal project teams and external relationships with clients and subconsultants for a wide range of project types from master planning and conceptual design through construction documentation.
- Develop and coordinate facets of project design from conceptual design (sketches, illustrative graphics, 3D-Models, renderings) through implementation
- Oversee construction documentation, bidding, and construction administration. Participate in marketing and business development efforts. Contribute to crafting proposals and interviewing for new work including building subconsultant teams, contribute to developing work plans, writing project approach and understandings, scope-of-work documents and contracts.
Experience and Education:
- A Professional Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
- Licensed in the State of New York or ability to obtain license within 1 year.
- 7+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience across design phases from concept to construction documentation and administration.
- Experience working for or with NYC public agencies, particularly NYC Parks, EDC, and DDC.
- Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
- Marketing and Business Development acumen.
