Job Summary
Pipe welders are required to obtain certification from the NAVSEASYSCOM to demonstrate their expertise in order to be allowed to weld onboard US Navy ships.
- Must be able to TIG CuNi and Stainless Steel using stainless steel, Copper-Nickel (CuNi), or other metal welding techniques and processes.
- MAY USE ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Horizontal rolled position (1G)
- Horizontal fixed position (5G)
- Pipe incline fixed (6G)
- Vertical position (2G)
- MUST PASS BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION (OR HAVE DOD SECURITY CLEARANCE)
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
- Must be NAVSEA certified (or be able to certify).
- Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job without accommodation - it is not feasible to provide shipboard accommodation.
- Must be able to work the manning schedule provided for the Ship's repair - overtime when required.
- Must be able to wear personal protective devices as prescribed by OSHA:
- Safety Shoes
- Hard Hat
- Eye Protection
- Hearing Protection
- Respirator
- Must demonstrate the ability to work safely aboard ship/in a shipyard.
- Must pass weld test to qualify, if test is rejected at visual inspection, will not re-test:
- CS - Carbon Steel
- SS - Stainless Steel
- GTAW - TIG, Heliarc
- Must be able to select and set up welding equipment and execute the planned welds according to the engineered drawing that an engineer put together.
- Examine welds to ensure that they meet standards or specifications and actually welding according to the specification set by the QC and the engineers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work involves considerable stooping, bending, and working in overhead structures and on scaffolds.
- May be required to lift and/or carry equipment/objects greater than 50lbs.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Typical environment found in the shipyard and ship repair industry.
Navy or Shipyard experience HIGHLY desired!

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
