Black Family Development, Inc. (BFDI), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, is a 501©3 organization, founded in 1978 by the Detroit chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers. Our youth- focused, and family-centered organization provides services in Detroit/Wayne County.

BFDI is a CARF accredited, licensed, comprehensive human services organization committed to serving all persons, while specializing in evidence-based counseling, treatment, and advocacy for persons of color. Agency programming includes early childhood resources and literacy development, a 3-tiered juvenile justice service array, mental health prevention and treatment, substance use disorder prevention and treatment, boys and young men of color supportive resources, school-based intervention, and trauma-informed care. Most importantly, our staff are heroes who strive to match passion for service with equal parts best practice to partner with families to achieve their goals.

Our organization is seeking a Full-time Finance Director with the corresponding experience requirements:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide Homelessness Prevention services to families at-risk of homelessness with general case management services including assessments, case planning, resource acquisition, service linking and monitoring, family follow-ups, crisis intervention, advocacy, family conferencing, family focused/centered intervention, and documentation. Ensure all services are maintained with an emphasis on culturally competent services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide direct intensive case management services to persons/families referred for essential services or homelessness prevention services related to permanent housing maintenance to achieve stabilization in the community as specified in proposal and contract.

Provide a minimum two phone contacts per week and minimum of 1-2 face-to-face direct service appointments weekly until factors impacting homelessness and immediate crisis, are resolved.

Work monthly to establish new community support services and housing leads for consumers.

Develop a databank of current and new resources

Assist consumers with transportation, concrete needs, crisis intervention, linkages to community resources and skill building.

Provide education in budgeting, parenting, substance use, landlord-tenant laws, coping skills, community resources, and other case appropriate life skills.

Develop a comprehensive housing permanency plan to decrease consumer’s risk of repeat homelessness

Ensures timely completion and submission of program monthly billing

Attend orientation/trainings on program, documentation, Management Information (MIS), confidentiality, ethics and treatment standards

Adhere to agency reporting requirements

Recommend needed changes for improvement of services

Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

Engagement with mainstream services including but not limited to Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), 36th District Court and Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD), City of Detroit, and other key program stakeholders in a manner that creates funder/stakeholder confidence, as evidence by referrals and satisfaction survey feedback.

Successful completion of Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) modules necessary to initiate, and continue providing, billable services.

Knowledge of the Homelessness Solutions Policies and Procedures Manual (CDBG), (ESG)

Knowledge of the major risk factors and service needs impacting the target population.

Teaching Skills

Crisis Intervention Skills

Development and maintenance of a community resource databank pertinent to families referred to the program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field; must have experience in solution-focused, family-centered practice and strength-based services; must have experience with assessments, referrals, linking consumers into services, consumer monitoring, consumer advocacy, consumer follow-up, and community resource development; documentation experience required in completing comprehensive case management assessments and case management service plans. Experience working with the homeless population preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Suites. Willing to work a flexible schedule and maintain 24-hour/7-day week accessibility.
