Job Description
The City of Topeka is seeking a dedicated professional to serve as the Development Navigator in the Planning and Development department. This position serves as a liaison and point of contact for project coordination with customers and stakeholders to ensure proposed project designs are consistent with the City’s codes, regulations, standards, specifications, processes, and plans.
What you'll do:
- Coordinate reviews of development applications such as subdivision plats, site plan reviews, vacation of easements and right-of-ways, building permits, and site activity/grading permits.
- Provide recommendations related to project development with customer success as a priority outcome.
- Schedule and attend preliminary and preapplication meetings, neighborhood information meetings, planning commission meetings, or other meetings as needed.
The ideal candidate:
- Has excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively, confidently and professionally with a diverse audience.
- Is a critical thinker with the ability to problem-solve.
- Has an aptitude for technology and/or a willingness to learn.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required with an Associate’s degree in project and land development or engineering. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in land development, architecture, civil engineering, project and construction management or closely related field is preferred.
- Up to three years of progressively related experience in project management or related field is required. Must include customer service experience.
- Must be insurable within the standards set by the City of Topeka’s insurance carrier and possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Annual entry salary: $63,865 - $76,638 DOQ
