Sapling’s areas of expertise include financial modelling, data analytics, due diligence (especially quality of earnings), automation, and developing operating tools. Our services help companies to evaluate new business opportunities, secure financing for new projects and M&A situations, improve operational efficiency, obtain accurate valuations, generate actionable insights, close deals and more.

POSITION SUMMARY, DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Position Summary

We are looking for an ambitious Business Development Representative. Ideally, we are looking for a minimum of two years experience in outbound software sales or working with B2B businesses. We are seeking a new sales colleague that is looking for impactful work they can take pride in - work that creates real value for our clients.

This is a true sales role. We are seeking an Business Development Representative who is willing and able to develop new leads for the Company and prospect our extensive lead lists to develop new business for the firm. In return, the Business Development Representative can earn an executive level income while growing and building with our company.

As an Business Development Representative, you will work in collaboration with our leaders, sales and marketing teams and consulting team, to support the organization in uncovering, nurturing, and spearheading programs that aim to attract new clients.

The Business Development Representative reports to our founder and CEO. We have a VP Sales on a consulting arrangement who provides coaching, mentoring and support on a regular, at minimum, weekly basis.

On a day-to-day basis, you will have the opportunity to work with many different prospects, clients, and teams, and shape the relationships and conversations we have with our prospects and clients directly as we continue to grow our business.

We’re seeking someone with a longer-term outlook who wants to join like-minded people in building a wildly successful company founded on the principle of creating high-impact value for clients.

This role will help you deepen and refine your growth strategy skills and provide you with hands-on experience in securing and fostering relationships with potential clients and key decision-makers to uncover opportunities, develop effective sales strategies and assist the proposal process. Ultimately, you will play a large role in a growing team with big ambitions for 2024 and beyond.

Our company is on a full hybrid model (2 days/week at 100 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto). Our hybrid model reflects the independence that our team is entrusted with in completing their work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prospect key contacts within our target markets primarily by telephone, LinkedIn, social media and email.
  • Utilize our marketing automation tools to run targeted email prospecting campaigns.
  • Prospect a share of our extensive list of identified leads by telephone/Teams, LinkedIn, email, social media, networking events, conferences, and other marketing strategies.
  • Pursue leads and move them through the sales cycle by making dozens of phone calls every day.
  • Qualify leads, build relationships, and share relevant marketing materials and intellectual property to develop the leads to proposal and then to close.
  • Attend conferences across North America. A big focus is scheduling meetings with prospective clients in advance of the events.
  • Attend networking events in or close to Toronto (e.g., Association for Corporate Growth, Turnaround Management Association, Financial Executives International, etc.)
  • Partner with our sales, marketing, and consulting teams to propose for new business and develop sales opportunities.
  • Conduct research to stay current with financial modelling, data analytics, and due diligence practices.
  • Plan and implement new target market initiatives by monitoring and sharing relevant thought leadership, client and marketplace news, and financial modelling, data analytics, and due diligence materials.
  • Propose ideas for the Sales and Marketing teams to connect with targets, including customization of marketing materials and distribution of relevant thought-leadership to key stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and timely customer, pipeline, and forecast data using our CRM system (Salesforce Dotcom - SFDC), in collaboration with the leadership and sales team. Updating and keeping our CRM accurate and current is a non-negotiable with our firm!
  • Design and deliver proposal development presentations that win new business.
  • Travel planning and booking, as required – e.g., accommodations, flights, etc.
  • As required, representing Sapling by spending time in the field, and at conferences/policy forums.

Skills & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree, ideally in business administration, but open to other fields.
  • A demonstrated willingness and ability to prospect for new business through cold calling via telephone.
  • Desire to earn an executive level income through their direct efforts.
  • Desire to grow and build their career and stature with a dynamic, growing firm.
  • Exceptional relationship building/relationship management skills to establish rapport, trust and confidence with sales teams, prospects, and clients.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, advanced Excel skills and ability to work with spreadsheets is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of SFDC and Pardot is welcomed, but not a must.
  • Quick learner with high energy and creative problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented, ability to adapt to changing environments.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and organized.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and interact with all levels of management.
  • 1-3 years of experience in sales is a real differentiator.
  • Ability to take ownership of responsibilities and see them through to completion.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time and multiple tasks/deadlines/deliverables at once.
  • Strong dedication to the team and excellent work ethic, as well as enthusiasm about going above and beyond to ensure our clients achieve their business goals.
  • Desire to contribute to the firm over the long haul, with the understanding that loyalty and hard work will be recognized in both compensation and responsibilities far more quickly than in a large “brand-name” firm.
